We are completely not for profit, we have tax advantages, and our board of directors are all volunteers, which means we can offer lower rates than any bank. Our 2020 CUNA Membership Benefits Report estimated that SIU Credit Union provided $5,685,819 in direct financial benefits to its members. That's a difference we're committed to.

Each year, we donate our time and money back to our local community, through numerous efforts. For example, we've provided free financial education to over 19,800 local students at 204 schools in 2020.

One teller inside able to wait on customers. Stood in line 17 minutes meanwhile a women monopolized the one working teller with stories about Donald Trump. Poor service.

Apparently impossible for students to open a new account.
1. Appointments only.
2. Must apply online using an application form
3. That requires an account number to submit
4. Then wait to be contacted with an approval and an appointment to sign papers
5. That never comes because see #3

They apparently don't!
Take your business somewhere that wants it.

I am so very fed up with them and dealing with the incompetent staff. I have my name connected to a business account and my personal account. I have had issues with money being withdrawn from my personal account when it should have been the business account. They supposedly put notes on these accounts to watch carefully when posting transactions. The last fiasco was when my personal real estate taxes were withdrawn from the business account in error. I talked to the branch manager whom seemed like she could care less. I called back later for more information, so left my name and number on the queue

We have been trying to speak to a loan officer since Friday. It’s now Monday and was told this morning by the loan officer we spoke to, Noah, that he would call back at noon and we still have heard nothing. Friday he said he’d call back in thirty minutes and he never called at all. This is beyond ridiculous and I’m going to lose the vehicle because the loan officers are flaky.

Unsure who she is but the woman who works evenings at the giant city location has a real bad attitude problem. If you don't like your profession and or helping people(your whole job is to smile and help) then leave. Don't treat clients/customers like trash because you are unhappy. I work in customer service. You're the face of a financial institution, make the customer feel heard not push them off with attitude. I do not feel safe or secure having an account at this credit union I will be closing my account in the next few days.

Put it a mortgage application with SIU. Received a pre-approval amount and was told what information was needed to finalize the amount. After that the loan officer became completely unhelpful. Refused to give us the information we requested, only answered less than half of our questions, refused to take the information we sent her (same info she requested), and refused to tell us how to get what she said she wanted. Also tried to tell us the payment we have on a bill couldn't possibly be that amount. Like we don't know what we pay and to whom. Then refused the OFFICIAL letter from the government

Great bank, but an absolute nightmare when it comes to international transactions. I have been to 21 countries in 4 years and I most certainly would not consider this bank to be “traveler friendly”. Any sort of international transaction is a massive headache to try to coordinate, as even when I call to approve international transactions, the transactions still fail and I have to call a billion times before it can be approved.

I had a loan and an account with this credit union. I took some cash in to deposit and was charged to deposit my own money. I paid off the loan and closed out the account. Now they tell me I have to wait three weeks or longer to get my title. People should pull their money out and put it in a bank. My check cleared four days ago so stop making excuses and send my title

I held an account with SIUCU for 6 years and didn't have many problems, excpet for the excessive overdraft fees. I asked for overdraft protection to be take off my account and was assured that it was. Then, I took a closer look at my statents and realized they had been holding my checks, not letting the deposit go through (sometimes for 15+ days) until they ran all of the transactions they could in order to charge me overdraft fees. I ended up making a claim with the NCUA, who decided in my favor and ordered them to refund the hundreds in fees and close my account. Suprise: they didn't close it
