Most people do not know this but when an African American Family get together for a funeral, there is going to be lots of anger and high emotions since alcohol is involved. Other funeral homes don’t seem to tolerate that kind of behavior but the people Midwest Funeral Home and Cremation Society are very open minded to such cultural nuances.

Knowing that my family would feel compelled to arrange an elaborate funeral when my time came, I decided to take matters into my own hands and arrange for the direct cremation I preferred. I just handled the pre-planning for that here and was surprised at its affordability. Now my family does not have to feel guilty about not going with a ‘fancy-schmancy’ ceremony or spend money I would not want them to.

Never having planned a funeral before, my brothers and I were completely at a loss over the unexpected and very premature death of my father. I’ll be honest and say that we were clueless and chose Midwest based on the quality look of their site and what it conveyed to us. That said we were shocked at the affordability of their high quality services.

When the unthinkable happened and a drunk driver crashed into my parents’ car and both were killed immediately, I was beside myself with grief. I am an only child who was very, very close with them and had no brothers and/or sisters to share the aching loss with me much less help to plan a funeral. I cannot express enough gratitude to the staff at Midwest for navigating me through the process in such a gentle and compassionate way when all I wanted to do was curl up into a ball in the corner and cry.
