We are an integrative health center, providing services to Monroe County since 1991. Our services include acupuncture, chiropractic, massage therapy, nutritional counseling, Chinese martial arts, a food buyer's club, and midwifery. Utilizing the example of the ancient sages of China, we address the promotion and maintenance of health in a variety of ways.
Those ancient sages focused on three basic tenants in their treatment. The first was the energetic balance of the body, which is effected with acupuncture. At the Asian Institute, acupuncture is the focus of our approach. We use a variety of techniques including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Classic Chinese Acupuncture, Five Elements, Japanese, Meridian and Trigger Point.

Acupuncture is a system of health care whose roots can be traced back at least 5000 years. Acupuncture works by analyzing and addressing the strength and presence of a component of the bodies' energy called "chi." Chi is the energy which creates and sustains all life. It is that same energy which will separate from your body when life ends.
Chiropractic is a profession which addresses the care of the human frame and nervous system as a means to promote health. Chiropractic was founded in this country by D. D. Palmer in 1895. There are references to "bone-setting" techniques in Egyptian hieroglyphics, Chinese Tui Na, etc. However, D. D. Palmer was the first to incorporate a philosophy and reasoning process for its application.
As we go through our normal day-to-day living, stress and tension can accumulate in the body, blocking our very own natural energy. Pain, stiffness and imbalance can be the result if not addressed. The goal during massage and bodywork is to locate the blockages, assist in their release and create the space where one's own natural energy can flow freely once again.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) has become a remarkable therapeutic tool used to assist survivors of traumatic incidents to recover the loss of self and personal functioning that frequently accompanies trauma. Studies demonstrate that by using EMDR as an adjunct to therapy, survivors can more quickly experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to accomplish.
At Asian Institute of Healing Arts we teach four Chinese martial arts. Martial arts play a pivotal role in Chinese medicine, each contributing in different ways. Northern Long Fist Shaolin Kung Fu is the eastern equivalent of aerobics. Its movements are ones which will work up a sweat. It works on your leg strength, cardiovascular conditioning, stamina and coordination.
