When students believe in themselves, what we do together is always greater. JA stays ahead of the curve so that each student is equipped for the future. Your child's success is our everyday endeavor as we inspire them to lead a life of purpose and significance. Upper School students mentor kindergartners, and our crossing guard welcomes families walking their children to school from the surrounding Sheffield neighborhood.
In our classrooms, each teacher's expertise becomes your child's opportunity, and each child's unique gifts become a path to purpose. Our community celebrates every student, cheering them on to a life grounded in character, compelled by curiosity, and inspired to achieve more every step of the way.

Within our nurturing and spiritual community, Jackson Academy inspires and equips each student to lead a life of purpose and significance.
Jackson Academy is an independent day school in the heart of Jackson, Mississippi, helping students reach their highest potential and succeed through their college years and beyond. In 1959, Loyal Bearss made a bold move. Convinced that phonics, in-depth reading, time for play, and exploration of the arts all contributed to stronger student success, he and ten area families founded JA.
Our students need more than knowledge; they need courage. Initiatives targeting character, ethical, spiritual, and leadership development will support student growth and confidence. Every child comes to JA with individual gifts, as well as unique needs. Personalized learning, augmented counseling, and college/career exploration programs will help our students achieve their greatest potential.
Members of the Jackson Academy Board of Trustees provide guidance and resources for the proper governance of the school. Their diverse backgrounds in business, law, financial management, fundraising, education, healthcare, and other fields give the Head of School and leadership team insight as they lead the academic and non-academic divisions.

Focuses entirely too much on sports and almost completely ignores the academically talented in favor of the sporty kids. I would go as far to say that you're paying for a public school level education. Unless you're talented in sports, enroll somewhere else. For $15,000 a year, it is completely unacceptable for teachers to start chewing out and fuming at students over a singular, extremely minor infraction. The only reason that I'm not posting a one-star is because there are some talented kids in the school. Overall, there are MUCH better choices academically in the area.

My husband and I have had children at Jackson Academy for over 23 years. It is a wonderful place for families who value exceptional academic achievement combined with strong character development. At JA, the teachers and administrators genuinely care about students and their families. It's a great place for students and parents too!

Jackson Academy is a wonderful place. My children are receiving a great education in a nuturing environment that is age appropriate by grade level. The teachers' training and adaptation to different styles of learning is remarkable. The faculty and staff equip the students with knowlege in the classroom environment but also train them as they become professionals. I love the partnership between parents and teachers! Go Raiders!

This school is very nice. The school is probably known for its link with apple. J.A. has a poor P.E. standard once in 6th grade. I only took P.E. for 9 weeks for 45 minutes which is really not a lot. But, otherwise everything checks out except for the dreaded reading teachers of 5th and 6th grade. Also, the tech center got rid of steam on my computer which they let me get a year ago. So, what is up. Otherwise great school.

I had the wonderful experience of shadowing the Dean, Matt Morgan, as part of my portfolio for graduate school. He portrayed courtesy, kindness and intelligence during my visit. Everyone I met was professional and courteous. The innovation I saw was engaging and students seemed genuinely excited to learn. Jackson Academy has a foundation built upon positive ethics and it shows. Students were well-mannered and respectful to each other as well as adults. High ethical standards continue to the respect for others property. The students did not have locks on their lockers, but everyone respected

The current headmaster, William Patrick Taylor, deliberately failed to report the abuse of a mentally ill child with a brain injury when he was headmaster at St Paul's in Mobile, AL. Just a heads up about the type of person the heads that school. (Taylor believed the lies of the sociopathic mother and unleased all the staff and students on the floundering student instead of calling the police.)

I graduated from here, and my years here were miserable. But, I will say the education is pretty good here compared to other schools in Mississippi. However, I do not believe the "critical reading" teaching here is not up to par. The school is lowering their grade scale; an "A" used to be a 95-100, but, as of this year, it will be a 92-100. It is obvious some people are chosen for awards because their parents work there, or they are "gift from God." If you or your child is different in anyway, he will be disregarded by his classmates, and maybe even teachers.
