Dr. Chad McDonald's enjoyment for the New England way of life comes from his roots in rural Jay, Maine. Now living in the Newburyport area, he enjoys the quaint atmosphere and variety of activities coastal New England has to offer.
A graduate of the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine and the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Dr. McDonald distinguished himself for superior patient care, graduating with honors in primary care, contact lenses, pediatrics, and low-vision care.In 2013 Dr. McDonald became Newburyport's first Board Certified Diplomat in the American Board of Optometry.

Dr. Traxler grew up in Newburyport, having Dr. McDonald as his Optometrist. After graduating from Newburyport High School in 2012, he attended the University of Maine where he graduated in 2016 magna cum laude with a degree in Bioengineering and was awarded High Honors from the Honors College. At his time at NECO, he was awarded the Otto Hochstadt Scholarship for his achievements in bioscience coursework.

Everyone was very friendly, they clearly explained every step of the process and were great the whole way through including reviewing everything with you at the end of the eye exam. Very positive experience and would recommend them to anyone in the Newburyport area for eye health exams/prescriptions.

The eye exam was extremely thorough. My initial experience in the optical shop was a bit unsettling. Working with an inexperienced person I was not given all of the information and availability of the best eye wear to suit my needs.
I could tell they were looking at me as high maintain ace client. Not so. The prescription was not place correctly in the eye wear. When I mentioned it I was told that is wear me marked it. Given she was new someone else took over.

Initially my experience was positive with the pleasantness of everyone from the front desk to technician to optometrist. The issue began after my exam when I sat down with one of the employees to go over ordering contacts. It felt reminiscent of negotiating with an insurance salesman after purchasing a car. I felt rushed to order a years worth of contacts with a price that wasn't disclosed until I asked. Then I was told this price was competitive, which it was not by several hundred dollars. Unfortunately I did not do enough research and listened to the advice and ordered from them. I now feel

First time here for a long overdue eye exam and couldn't have been more happy and impressed. Extremely friendly receptionists, clean and welcoming facility, and Dr. McDonald couldn't have been more helpful explaining everything to me and asking me if I had any questions on anything.

Everything about my visit was professional, organized and communicative. I'm always impressed with the state-of-the-art diagnostics and the skills of those who administer them.
I take many prescription medications for health conditions and worry about their cumulative effect on my eyes. My annual exam is integral to ensuring that my vision isn't impaired by them.

Watts Eye Associates exceeded my expectations!
When I first arrived I was greeted with a warm smile and it just got better from there. I was invited to leisurely stroll and experience Watts Eye’s amazing new showroom. From the decor, spacious floor plan and the endless selection of frames and accessories it was like being at a spa! I was then seamlessly transitioned to the newly constructed exam offices. From beginning to goodbye I felt I was welcome and a valued part of the practice, not just a customer. Oh yea, I also got an amazing new pair of glasses!

Had an extremely thorough eye exam today with Dr. McDonald. I was very impressed with the array of diagnostic equipment for the eye. The doctor and his staff are professional, courteous and well organized. Everyone was so nice too, including the front desk, technicians and opticians. All my questions were answered and I never felt rushed. Highly recommend Watts Eye Associates!

Today was my first experience with Watts Eye Associates, and I could not have been more pleased. The entire experience and process was great. The entire staff was professional, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. They took the time to explain everything very clearly. My experience was superb from start to finish. The exam was thorough and stress free. I never felt rushed or dismissed. Dr Sullivan listened intently to my requirements which promoted a sense of immediate trust in her. Shopping for my new glasses was enjoyable and fun. It’s can be an expensive purchase, and I left the office feeling that I really got my money’s worth! Thanks to Dr Sullivan and the entire staff!!!

Great! Very informative, friendly, and personable staff. Dr. McDonald and fellow associates were thorough, taking the time to answer questions and explain their processes. Floor staff was helpful in selecting new frames. Front desk personal were very warm and helped with insurance information as well.
