The Washtenaw Health Plan works to expand access to healthcare services. We help people access health insurance, through Medicaid and Marketplace enrollments. We run a safety net healthcare program, the Washtenaw Health Plan B. We work with safety net providers across Washtenaw County. We are also active participants in the Washtenaw/Livingston State Innovation Model project.
We work closely with the Washtenaw County Health Department on access to care issues. If you have a question, call us at (734) 544-3030 and we'll try to find answers. We strive to provide accurate information that will allow people to find the best health care options for their family. With this web site we provide information that should be accurate for the State of Michigan, although much of the information is appropriate nationally.

Your household size depends on many factors. How many people are in your family? Who is on your tax return? How are the people in your household related? To determine your income, you need pay stubs for everyone who works, income information for all members of the household and a copy of your most recent taxes.
To qualify for Medicaid, your household size and income must meet the eligibility requirements for different Medicaid programs. Individuals in the same family may qualify for different programs. Check each chart below. If anyone in your family qualifies for Medicaid, the application should include all members of the family.
Open Enrollment for 2020 Is Closed But You May Still Qualify for a Special Enrollment. For example, if your income rises and you "fall off" Medicaid, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period! Call us at 734-544-3030. Insurance companies offer medical and dental insurance with varying levels of health coverage, and you can choose among the various choices.
Medicare is health insurance for adults who are age 65 or older or certain younger people who are disabled. Make sure to review your plan choices each year. Plans change from year to year. Medicare costs money for most people. There is a premium for Medicare Part B. Typically, Medicare covers 80% of your medical costs while you are responsible for the other 20%.
Most people, if offered employer insurance, will need to choose it over Marketplace coverage. For most people, if their employer offers insurance they will not qualify for Marketplace subsidies. Employer coverage is considered affordable if the employee's share of the annual premium for the lowest priced self-only plan is no greater than 9.78% of annual household income in 2020.

I agree with Meredith that this is a great place to get help. Ruth Kraut and one of her assistants, Bruce, are both great! Both of them have gone out of their way several times to assist me in understanding the complexities of the Medicare system. They responded to my concerns very quickly (wihin a few minutes when I emailed a question), and comprehensively (they really know how the program works, and can explain how the various alternatives within the program work). They are also very pleasant and obviously compassionate people. They make it possible to deal with this large and confusing
