Do you and your significant other go through daily life feeling like it's the same story, different day? If your child is having a difficult time with their daily function in or out of school, you may feel defeated when your child shuts down, acts out of anger, and won't talk to you about it. Sometimes it can feel like the tough spots in life last longer or pile up more quickly than we would like.
When you are overwhelmed with these emotions, creating a validating and calm space is important. At Lakes Counseling Center, our clinicians provide you with the tools you need for you and your family. In therapy, we help you cultivate the skills you need to reconnect with yourself, your life, and the relationships you cherish.

Struggling to take control of your anxiety? Anxiety is common, affecting 40 million adults in America each year. For people experiencing anxiety, it is important to understand that your anxiety is not simply a personality trait - anxiety is treatable. If your nervousness or worry feels out of control, it's time to get help for anxiety.
Do you feel overwhelmed trying to cope? Most of us have a full plate just managing our daily life. When extra stressors get added - career changes, marriage, navigating a blended family, divorce, breakups, family conflict, illness, or death - we can easily feel that it's just too much. All of us, single or married, living alone or living with children, face stresses and burdens.
With more adults working from home and children attending school virtually, we need to maintain the boundaries between work and personal life. When our brain has no other avenues to relax, laugh, and relax, our autonomic nervous system cannot disengage from an altered "fight-or-flight" state.
Some things to control in an uncontrollable situation are the following: minimize the amount of news consumed in a day, limit social media, go out, communicate with friends online or outside, ask your children how they are feeling, take breaks during the day, find laughter through stories or videos, eat healthily, and sleep well.

I used to do counseling here before some events took place in my life and I moved, which included moving to a completely different counselor. When coming here, my counselor was Katie Hepner. I absolutely loved her after getting to know her. I've always been anxious when it came to counselors/therapists because my anxiety always kinda made me think that information was going to be getting back to my parents, somehow. Now that I am back home, and almost an adult, I'm trying to make choices for myself that will continue to help me moving forward. I miss Katie Hepner a lot and I miss talking to her

As a clinician, I only recommend counselors who I know personally and trust to take care of my clients with the same quality of care that I hold myself to. When looking for a counselor, you want to find someone who is not only skilled in their practice, but authentic - look no further! Lakes Counseling Center is run by Katie Hepner, a clinician who I highly recommend when referring clients. Knowing Katie's character and approach, I know that's she's well equipped to help clients with her experience and expertise.

We have been working with Katie for 3 years now. Our son was extremely out of control (hitting, kicking, biting, etc...) He was one big ball of rage, and while we consider ourselves reasonably intelligent, my husband and I found ourselves at a loss for how to correct his behavior. As parents determined not to utilize physical discipline, we really struggled with alternatives.
In the beginning it was just so tough on everyone. We were at our wits end. After a couple months, wefound ourselves questioning the efficacy. At that point, we had a "breakthrough" session with Katie. We voiced our concerns
