Serving the cycling and hiking needs of Silver City and Southwest New Mexico for over 30 years. The Gila Hike and Bike is a hiking, biking and outdoor store located in downtown Silver City. For hikers, we stock backpacking and camping supplies that work well in our area, including camp fuel, dehydrated food, hiking shoes and a small selection of clothing.
For cycling we're a Trek store, stocking many models of bike that work well for our single track, dirt roads and pavement. We also hold accounts with Yeti, Moots, Transition, Santa Cruz and Raleigh, and we're an authorized Bosch dealer! We rent road bikes, hardtail mountain bikes, full suspension mountain bikes and E-Mountain bikes!

Services
Raised in Millbrook, New York, Alex found the Gila Hike and Bike in a very cool fashion; riding across the country on a women's tour of the Southern Tier. Her cycling trip from San Diego to Saint Augustine meant that she and her group were reliant on bike shops along the route. After two days resting and recuperating in Silver City, she knew she'd found something special in the town and at the bike shop.
We are a full service bike shop that will work on any non-gas powered bike, trike or recumbent! Road bikes? We can fit you to your bike. Mountain bikes? We perform fork service, shock service and bushing service in-house. Ebikes? Hell yeah! We're a bosch-certified shop selling and renting mid-drive road, town and mountain bikes.
Powerfly 4 is our most affordable electric mountain bike. It's built with parts that hold up, like a smooth-shifting Shimano drivetrain, and a powerful Bosch motor. Plus, it features our user-friendly Removable Integrated Battery (RIB) system that's fully encased in the frame yet doesn't require tools for removal.
Boston Hill - Historically, the 'Boston Hill' open pit mining area is of great importance when considering why people first descended upon Silver City. After considerable prospecting for silver, the area was first mined in 1870. Shortly after realizing that Silver was not in abundance, the Massachusetts and New Mexico Mining Company began extracting a considerable quantity of fluxing ore, used by the local mines in the reduction of richer ores.
Fort Bayard - Sign posts located on Hwy 180 make the Dragonfly Trail Head one of the easiest trail heads to find in the area! Leaving from the North parking lot, the 'Dragonfly Loop' can be taken in either a clockwise or counter clockwise direction. Should you hike counter clockwise, look for a sign asking 'Who passed this way?' attached to a tree.

Northbound on Great Divide, needed wheels trued and derailleur adjusted. Doug practically rebuilt the wheels, tensioning the spokes, added extra sealant, fixed the frame that was causing derailleur issues, and at a very reasonable price. I was off the next day. They even let me borrow a bike to get around town while I waited.

We were traveling through Silver City and had an issue with a new bike that was the reason for our trip, gravel riding through Northern AZ, Silver City and Chiricahua Mtns. Martin and his staff agreed to look at the bike, immediately, diagnosed and fixed the issue. They were so friendly and very knowledgeable. We went on to be able to complete our rides without a hitch. Thank you Gila H & B!

What a great shop. My wife and are working our way across country from New Hampshire, hitting local trails, as we go. Fun. But my rear brake was getting way too spongy for the riding coming up in NM, AZ and Utah. I stopped in late afternoon on a Friday, and even though they were swamped, they got me all fixed up without missing a day in the trails. Very friendly, businesslike, customer oriented shop. Thank you!

Awesome people to deal with. Had to arrange the purchase of 1 and the assembly of 2 bicycles as Christmas gifts for 3 children from my home state of Florida. Everyone I dealt with at Gila were helpful and courteous and they completed this job as quoted. There are not too many businesses that will take on a long distance job like mine, especially without asking for a deposit. They were a wonderful business to deal with. I just regret I can't walk in their front door and thank them in person.

Always a great experience when dealing with any of the folks in the Gila Hike & Bike. They are always courteous and helpful! Will definitely visit the shop the next time I am in Silver City (regardless of whether I need anything or not) just to say Hello. Great work guys!

We love Gila Hike & Bike! Their selection isn't huge but it's adequate, and if they don't have what you want they can get it. Their knowledge is impressive, and their care for their customers and products is evident in everything they do. We rented e-Bikes from the store and took them trail riding, and after that ride we knew we had to have some of our own. Martyn and Taylor were awesome helping us make a decision and getting our bikes ordered and delivered to us. We're sure lucky to have these guys and their store in Silver City, New Mexico.

The area around Silver City is incredible for mountain biking.
Your first stop should be Gila Hike and Bike. The people withered are very friendly and your best resource for finding great trails and having a great experience.
The shop is full service and they have tons of replacement parts if needed.
They're an authorized Trek dealer as well as other boutique brands.

I was driving through town and stopped in just for advice on where to ride nearby. They could not have been nicer or more enthusiastic about giving me a great suggestion, showing me on their large wall map exactly where I needed to drive, park and then ride, and answered all my questions -- without me giving them any indication I was interested in buying anything! Seemed like a GREAT local bike shop.

I enjoyed talking to the guy there. Came in actually after the area was recommended to me by a local race director who I met while volunteering at a race in Utah.
The guy very patiently explained to me where to camp and where to ride and what the conditions are like after the fire they had in the forest. Also drew some other places to go on the back of one of the maps for me.

This small, cramped bike shop suffers from a severe case of if-you-don't-look-like-you-can-do-a-century-ride-I'm-not-waiting-on-you-itis. I stood patiently with items that I wanted to and intended to buy, while the guy behind the counter shot the breeze with some biker who was not in fact buying anything. After being ignored for about 10 minutes, I put down my intended purchase and left the store.
