Five Star's history is rooted in the trees of Alabama and Georgia. The credit union was founded in 1964 in Cedar Springs, GA as the Cedar Springs Federal Credit Union. It was chartered to serve the employees of the Great Southern Paper Company with the first office being a storage closet. The credit union began with eight members who invested $5 each.
The credit union was run, part-time, by a mill employee who was known as the treasurer. By the end of the first year, Cedar Springs FCU had 262 members and $81,363 in assets. The credit union concept caught on in Cedar Springs, over the next 15 years the credit union grew out of the storage closet and opened its first branch on the mill property.

Five Star Credit Union serves 18 counties through 17 full-service branches across lower Alabama and southern Georgia. Members have access to thousands of surcharge-free ATMs throughout the United States. Five Star Credit Union participates in the shared branching network. Members of Five Star can conduct most or all of their credit union business at other participating credit unions.
At Five Star, you, the member, always comes first. That means giving you many ways to contact the credit union. There is also a drop down selection to offer feedback. Five Star maintains a full-service live call center from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (CST), Monday through Friday. Loan specialists are available until 6pm CST Monday through Friday.

In Georgia, you can join in any of these Georgia counties: Decatur, Early, Glynn, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Seminole, Stewart, and Webster.

Five Star Credit Union should really be called .5 star credit union. One woman at the front desk, with an attitude just as salty as the beach nearby. My friend needed a new debit card and after a good minute of silence and blank stares she told us it was ten dollars for a new card, not even using the extra brain cell to realize she could have just pulled the money from my friends account with a simple ID. Then when we asked when we could expect the new card in the mail she answered "oh idk the systems are down" and shrugged. The only time she gave a smile was the one that caused her pain
