The goal of the board-certified interventional pain management specialists, anesthesiologists, and support staff at Athens Spine Center is to provide high-quality pain management services to men and women living in Athens, Georgia, and throughout Clarke County. At Athens Spine Center, each member of the team holds board-certification in pain management and anesthesiology.
The team takes a broad approach to medicine and always tries to treat patients using conservative methods of care, such as injections instead of opioids. Each provider sets aside plenty of time to get to know every individual patient. They listen carefully to their symptoms, concerns, and goals for treatment, and develop custom care plans that try and treat the source of pain rather than mask the symptoms.

Our office operates a high-complexity CLIA certified laboratory on-site for preliminary test results. This allows our providers to receive results same day and not only assist in building the optimal treatment plan but to monitor patient compliance throughout their treatment. If required by the provider, the urine sample will also be sent to a lab for LC-MS/MS confirmation testing.

I didn’t have to wait at all before I was called back. The technician reviewed my history & had me ready for Dr Megdal in just a few minutes. Dr Megdal was in the room for my procedure within 5 minutes. Very pleased with my experience!
The office overall is staffed very well & appears to run very efficiently.

The communications with the Spine Clinic were excellent from the time my primary care physician contacted them to refer me as a patient. The instructions were clear about what they needed from me. I was answered kindly and respectfully when I phoned the office with a question.
Upon arrival for my appointment I was welcomed warmly and guided through the procedures in a friendly professional manner. The office atmosphere was clean, calming and quiet.

I’ve recommended this practice to several friends…and they all have had the same positive experience! Now that a new office is open at Lake Oconee (except procedures at this time), it’s even easier for us to see our doctors and make procedural appointments in Athens. Highest rating from us…doctors and staff are excellent!

Dr. Thomas had clearly studied my husband's case before he entered the room. He was able to state diagnosis, report on imaging and offer treatment options. It was encouraging to hear him say he "treats patients", not images. Dr. Thomas listened to us and was very thorough and professional during the entire visit. We highly recommend him.

I've been a patient here since 2012 after 4 failed back surgeries. They are truly kind, caring, organized and professional from the front desk to the nurse and especially Dr McCurdy and the PA Sarah! I drive from Rabun County to see them because I completely trust them to have my best interest in mind.

I went to the Athens Spine Center, today, for my consultation visit with Dr. Thomas. Everyone was so nice and helpful. From the time I walked in the front door, I felt at home and at ease. I would have no trouble recommending them to anyone having back problems. Dr. Thomas was so very friendly and put me at ease from the time he walked into the room where I was waiting. He explained my problem and the procedure he planned to do for my back. Betty Bryson
