Services
Dr. McKernan earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England. He was Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice. For 22 years, Dr. McKernan has provided complete medical care in a rural setting including all aspects of patient medical care and in 1988 began performing obstetrics.
We strive to provide high quality women's healthcare for the Des Moines, Iowa area that embodies good evidence-based medicine and promotes the openness to life and the value of children by respecting the unitive and procreative components of marriage. We offer personalized obstetric care where you will see the same physician, Dr. McKernan, and nurse, Kaatlyn, at each of your visits.
We teach the Creighton Model FertilityCare System as a means of accurately charting biological markers throughout a women's cycle to determine if she is fertile or not fertile. This charted information is then evaluated by Dr. McKernan in combination with other NaPro Technology testing to treat the underlying biochemical and physiologic causes of infertility rather than the typical "Band-Aid" method of symptom management.

I have visited this doctor several times and after today's visit, I won't be returning. I told about my abdominal pain and he barely touched my stomach. He completely missed a swollen nodule (my husband who is in medical school pointed it out to him) and at the end of our visit, he asked, "Have I seen you before?"
I was floored. It was hurtful and completely inexcusable.
