Silver Mountain #1 is the first of our Black Hills Cabins. It was originally built in the 1930's as a place for Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) crew members to call home after long days spend in the area constructing bridges, building parks, thinning trees, and mining rocks. This cabin was later renovated into a gas station in the 1960's for travelers heading to Mt. Rushmore.

The large living room boasts a gorgeous, petrified wood fireplace (for decoration only) and a queen sized murphy bed. The second floor contains a bedroom with 1 queen bed and 1 full bathroom. The kitchen includes a dishwasher and full appliances.

Everything about our stay was perfect with one minor exception . . . the WiFi wasn't reliable enough to support some remote work I needed to attend to. It's hardly enough to mention, as I'd ideally not be spending ANY time on work related items whilst on vacation, but for guests that must, this is good to be aware of.

If you are looking for a unique, off the beaten path but not too far from attractions & stores then this is the place to stay. If you are looking for complete maid service & cookie cutter cabins then this is not the place to stay. My family has been coming here for years. We love it here! Parking can be a little tight but if people park where they are supposed to and leave room for others you are fine. Everything is laid out in the laminated sheet on the kitchen table in your cabin. Read it & follow it & you will know how the owners operate their property. I highly suggest looking into this place

Great place to stay! Very clean and owners are welcoming and attentive. We stayed in the Mountain View Suite, which was perfect with our two small kids.
The kitchen is well stocked. The dishes are ceramic or glass, so if you are concerned about kids breaking or using them outdoors, you may want to bring plastic or disposable.

Stayed five nights in the Mountain View Ste. It was very comfortable and well appointed. King bed was comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed. The location was perfect to explore the Black Hills area of SD. Fire pit and private deck were nice benefits of the suite.
Highly recommend the suite for a couple or couple with a small child. Would definitely stay here again if in the Black Hills area.

We were just neutral about this place. The location is off the main highway so its quite. Right down the road is trail access and Gaslight restaurant. The Coon Hollow Cabin was nice. It was decorated well but for the tiny TV. The kitchen utensils are stocked for all your needs. It slept 5 comfortably.
The space is shared with other campsites and very tight. We did not feel the private seclusion we hoped for. Our fire pit was nearly overlapping space with two others. You can hear all neighboring conversations. We felt no place to wander or explore with out encroaching on others sites. The self
