Juneau Youth Services responds to the behavioral health needs of Alaska's youth, serving children, teens and their families. One in six children, ages 2 to 8, has a diagnosed mental, behavioral or developmental disorder. The most commonly diagnosed mental disorders among children are ADHD, anxiety, depression and behavioral issues.
Many of these disorders can be detected and treated starting in elementary school. Early intervention is essential. By helping children develop coping mechanisms and healthy relationships with adults we are creating a healthier Alaska. JYS believes the best place for kids is with their families. We work to keep families together and create healthy futures for our community.

Services
Every Alaska child and teen deserves a chance to thrive in a world full of opportunity, but sometimes that takes a little help. Juneau Youth Services assists Alaska's most vulnerable populations. JYS helps youth and families develop the tools necessary to succeed. Operating since 1961, we provide emergency, residential and community-based mental health and substance use services, collectively known as behavioral health care.
Juneau Youth Services is here to support our community. All of our programs have been developed to help keep families together. By developing individualized plans, we provide families with the structure and encouragement they need. Our program, The Link, is designed to provide immediate support for those in crisis.
The Link is your first point of contact with Juneau Youth Services. All general inquiries and referrals go through The Link. Knowledgeable staff will answer any questions about services and philosophies. They schedule and complete integrated behavioral health and substance use assessments. A master's level clinician will conduct the assessment within three days of the request.
JYS provides residential treatment for youth ages 12 to 18. We have separate boys and girls units on our Juneau campus. A co-ed unit will be opening in 2021. Residents receive individual, group and family counseling. They also go through skill-building and educational programming, according to their treatment plans.
Our home and community-based services are available for families living in Juneau. We currently provide therapeutic foster care, case management and our new Healthy Families program. Out-of-home care provided by specially trained foster parents caring for young people with significant emotional, behavioral and/or social issues.

Okay treatment, poor education system. I came in, thinking that I would be able to take Calculus and physics, and was not able to take math or science, because the teacher is not “AP Certified”. Classes seemed too basic for their level. On a positive note, the treatment itself is fine, but there is a LOT of room for improvement with things like the “point system”.
