Select students from Doral Academy Charter School recently competed in the 49th annual Mu Alpha Theta National Convention, held in Las Vegas, and placed sixth out of 50 schools - ending the week-long competition with 40 trophies.

Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma. We are dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students.
The Mu Alpha Theta National High School and Junior College Mathematics Club was founded in 1957 by Dr. and Mrs. Richard V. Andree at the University of Oklahoma. In his words, Mu Alpha Theta is "an organization dedicated to promoting scholarship in mathematics and establishing math as an integral part of high school and junior college education."

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is the world's largest community of mathematicians, students, and enthusiasts.
Some chapters' constitutions have additional attendance or service requirements for continued membership. Sponsors should make sure applicants are aware of all requirements and understand how members will be chosen. All new members should be given written rules so they can remain members in good standing.
