Tom Makinney sold my wife and I our first home in Lombard, a 2bed/2bath 1500 sqft georgian. It was a motivated seller who had listed the home at one point at 409k. We negotiated down and I purchased the home at 257k. SCORE! After living in the home for only 6 years, and with moderate improvements over that time period, we listed our home and it went under contract in 4 days. We sold for 300k and turned a little profit. ***WARNING*** I listed our home with Maria Gracik of @Properties on the recommendation of a local builder. She took the listing and sat on it. After signing the listing agreement, I could never get in contact with her. All communication was through staff. She did nothing to market the house beyond posting it in the MLS. She tied the property up with a six-month listing agreement and did nothing. My wife’s job situation changed, and her national relocation experts advised us that seller's should NEVER sign a listing agreement for a period longer than four-months. ***WARNING*** I just cancelled my listing with Maria Gracik with @Properties and paid the $350.00 to do so. Let me explain why. It took almost two weeks to have a sign put up in my front yard. Maria would NEVER pick up my phone calls. She may or may not respond to my texts messages. The best example was when I text her at noon and got no response I text her again at 6pm, her response to me was and I quote "I'm not done digesting yet"--and she didn't even call me back after her dinner. My final straw was when I asked her to please help me find a professional cleaning service

Of course I was not their client. Tom continued to find other buyers even after we had a contract. It cost me over a thousand dollars for inspection and loan processing, which were all completed. We had to start all over again. Kids were de-enrolled from school!!!
He had the audacity to tell our agent to bid on his other listings. We refused.

Tom helped us buy our house back in 2006 and then sell it in 2015 and we cannot thank him enough on both transactions. I'd put him up against anyone in Elmhurst as far as knowing the market and guiding someone through the purchase/sale of a home. He helped us sell our house for more than $100k than what Redfin wanted to list our house. I was actually the seller on the deal for the one bad review here and it is actually a good example of why we were thankful Tom was representing us. Cannot say enough for Tom Makinney at Gracik Makinney in Elmhurst. Tom was relentless in finding us the best home, drove countless miles to make sure we were seeing listings that matched our needs, knew the area and schools like a government official, and was helpful when we were being difficult. Moving from a new state is hard enough, but Gracik Makinney made it a breeze. If you are in Elmhurst or DuPage County IL, look nowhere other than Gracik Makinney.

We purchased a home in Glen Ellyn through Gracik Makinney in May of 2010. We had a specific kind of property in mind and a long list of 'must haves'. Tom worked patiently with us to find exactly the right property at a price we could afford.
