Gym America
Gym America is one of Michigan's top gymnastics programs. We have some of the best coaches in the country, a new state of the art facility, and a ton of great programs for kids of all ages. We offer field trips, summer camps, preschool playtime and more! Gym America, the Ann Arbor area's premier Olympic-style gymnastics school, was founded in 1979 by the husband and wife team of Ed and Claudia Kretschmer.

The couple has a passion for coaching and experience as competitive collegiate athletes at the University of Florida, Claudia as a varsity gymnast and Ed as a varsity pole-vaulter and decathlete. Owners Ed and Claudia are the directors at Gym America and the head coaches for the girls' competitive teams.
Services
Our introductory boys' gymnastics classes are for boys in first-grade and up. The boys will use the trampoline and all the men's equipment, with a special emphasis on self-esteem, strength and coordination. Gymnastics, when taught properly, can be the vehicle used to deliver a lifetime of good physical fitness habits.
After taking introductory gymnastics classes and then progressing to advanced classes through instructor evaluation and recommendation, gymnasts are often ready for their first competitive team. Gym America offers several team experiences for Level 3-10 gymnasts. Gym America's "Gym Star" teams include young students who are just beginning to compete to teenagers with many years of advanced gymnastics training who compete at a national level.
The Elite Program is designed to provide competitive experiences for athletes aspiring to the National Team or the Pre-Elite Training Squad. The National Teams (Senior and Junior) are selected from the USA Championships each year. These athletes represent the United States in international competitions.
The Ninja Stars is an invite only group for boys that are ready to begin taking their gymnastics to the next level. Boys further develop self-confidence and focus while building their gymnastics skill, strength, and flexibility. This group competes in the Star Team program, giving boys their first taste of gymnastics competition in a low pressure environment.
The focus of Gym America's Pre-Team program is training our youngest competitive gymnasts in entry-level gymnastic skills, physical conditioning and performance skills. These very important levels introduce the parent and the athlete to competition, and our goal is to help them enjoy every step of the process.

Great gym, overall. My preschooler loves our weekly class! Was disappointed to learn that members must pay for weekly classes, even if the instructor needs to cancel; while they do offer "make up days" on the weekend, this supplemtary time doesn't work for our family's schedule, and we were still required to pay for a class that wasn't offered for us during the time we are registered for. I do, however, love that all ages perform in the same, large space, allowing my youngster a full visual experience. They love going every week. I love that they are making it available for parents to watch their

Gym america,
I’ve got a couple of things to say about this establishment. I attended when at a different location when I was a child. My mom didn’t love it. We attended one season, and moved on to a new gym. Now as a new generation I wanted to give them another chance. I’m currently bringing my kids here (20+ years later). Due to convenience and location, it’s working for us for now.
You should know about their policies before signing your children up for classes here. Are they a super clean gym, and very strict about their cleaning policies? Yes.
As a single parent, it can become difficult

My preschooler has been taking classes at Gym America for 6 months and she loves it. Coach Jamie is amazing with the littlest kids; she's funny and silly all the while teaching gym skills and helping them learn to take turns and listen. The staff, coaches and students all wear masks and stay distanced from each other. The check-in process is streamline and the facility is spotless. As soon as instructional classes resume I will enroll my first grader here too. Thank you!

The gym is fine for a place to take kids.
The owner tried to involve herself in my child custody case.
Something she wasn't involved but took it upon herself to get mixed up in. Go elsewhere. I'll pay your first month

Positive: Professionalism, Quality
Gym America has amazing coaches that have helped my daughter not only grow as a gymnast, but also helped her gain confidence. They have also taken the health and safety of the students seriously and are actively updating protocols to meet current situations.

We love Gym America! My daughter has been a part of the GA family for 9 years. I think the thing that the GA team does best is handle adversity. They impressed me with the way they used the Larry Nassar case to empower the kids to use their voice, and now they have been ROCK STARS in handling the pandemic. I literally trust them with my kid's life. I'm so grateful for the influence the coaches have been my daughter's life. I highly recommend them to everyone I know.

Love Gym America! This is our 9th year as a part of the GA family and we have been consistently happy with our experience, both from the gymnast and parent-of-gymnast perspectives. Everyone we work with at the gym, from the coaches to the gym owners to the staff members, are so professional, caring, and dedicated to the well-being and success of our daughter as a gymnast and as a person.

I love this place a million times over. The staff is so friendly and kind and have helped my daughter build character, friendships and just have fun when going through tough times. They teach kids at so many different levels of experience but treat all gymnasts with respect, compassion and support. We’ve been attending for a few years and have no intention of stopping any time soon!
