The EPA has a new proposed rule regarding the phasedown of HFCs, "Phasedown of Hydrofluorocarbons: Establishing the Allowance Allocation and Trading Program under the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act." The proposed rule sets HFC production levels, consumption levels, and how to allocate allowances.

A copy of the proposed rule can be found here. The NC Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshall's October Newsletter contains a clarification that comfort cooling equipment used for product cooling is in violation of the NC Building Code.

You may either call our office at (919) 779-4711 and request a Change of Trade Name form or download the form here. If you are the qualifying person for your company, you must put your company name on your license. You may let your license lapse for one year. The renewal fee for a lapsed license if $120.
In the State of North Carolina, all persons, firms or corporations engaged in the installation, maintenance, servicing and repairing of refrigerating machinery, equipment, devices and components are required to hold an active Refrigeration Contractor License.

Qualifying experience shall be acquired while working under the supervision of a person who holds a valid refrigeration contractor's license, who is a registered professional engineer or who has equivalent industry experience.Up to one-half of the experience may be in academic or technical training directly related to the field.
EPA regulations under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act require that technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release refrigerants into the atmosphere must be certified. Any other activity that violates the integrity of a motor vehicle air conditioner (MVAC)-like appliance or small appliance (other than disposal).
We perform CFC testing in conjunction with the Community College systems in North Carolina and South Carolina. If you took your CFC test from a location that was not a Community College and not in North Carolina or South Carolina, you probably did you test through us and we do not have your CFC records.
In order to become certified, you need to pass the CFC Certification Exam. We offer Type I mail-in exams that you can order and take at home. Other CFC exams must be proctored and are given through the Community Colleges. If you want to take the exam, we suggest that you contact the Community Colleges near you to find out when they are giving the next exam.
