This program was established in 2005 by the Lafayette Chapter of the Louisiana Credit Union League. Entries are accepted from members of several participating local credit unions. This scholarship is awarded through a random drawing among qualified applicants. Eligibility: Graduating High School Seniors and current College/Technical School Students.

Hubert A. Lerschen, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, made a study of credit unions in other parts of the country and decided that such an organization would be of benefit to the trading area of Rayne. In order to have a few persons who would understand the workings and purpose of credit unions, he selected 12 men who were ushers at church at the time and gave them a course of instructions.
Residents living in the trade territory of the City of Rayne, also members of their immediate families which includes any relative by blood or marriage, or foster and adopted children, grandchildren, sons-in-law, and daughters-in-law of a member. To begin your membership with People's Credit Union, you must first fill out a membership application for a savings account and make a minimum deposit of $30.00.
