Roots Charter High School
A farm in the city is an ideal context for studying connections. A farm demonstrates the most basic relationship humans have to the land. Students experience the cycles of nature and discover the rewards of hard work and collaboration. They care for plants and animals that, in turn, provide their nourishment.

They are involved in matters of life, birth, and death. They are responsible for the well- being of fellow creatures and develop motivation and responsibility through this relationship. Roots Charter High School is on a farm and strives to authenticate all the learning that takes place at the school through the farm as a laboratory.
Services
There are many benefits to Roots Charter High School: One of the major and obvious benefits is the smaller school size. Smaller schools may be especially important for disadvantaged students by more individualized attention and teachers being able to address different learning styles. Also, smaller schools may promote substantially improved achievement and higher graduation rates (Howley, et al., 2000).
Roots Charter High School targets students in the greater West Valley City area and instill them with the knowledge, skills and ability to live healthy, productive and sustainable lives. Graduates are proficient in math and reading and well prepared for post-secondary education through authentic learning that develops ecological literacy, academic accomplishment, strong character, and a commitment to community.
Learn the biology of a plant and then design an experiment in the school greenhouse to determine the evapo-transpiration rate or reproductive cycle of tomatoes. Learn concepts and then go outside to paint a landscape, sculpt a tomato you helped grow. This is the harvesting time for the students. The days consist of weeding and accumulating the production for the year.

Roots Charter High School relies on donations from like-minded individuals looking to educate students in agriculture. We believe that hands-on authentic education is needed in our community. Donations below will go to support our farm and agriculture program. Please help us be the school we have set out to be, Donate now.

This school is amazing. Engaged teachers and administration. My student has found and been motivated by new areas of learning, and most importantly hope for the future. The administration is so resourceful about meeting the needs of the students, and very well versed in graduation requirements, and committed to supporting each student discover and meet their goals. The teachers care, and the curriculum is well thought out and life positive. I would recommend this school, and will always be grateful for this inventive, forward thinking, and much needed school. Thank you Roots!

At last! A school that is committed to teaching children what they should know and focused on the reality that students can really relate to authentic learning and growing experiences, especially where agriculture is a priority just as the students.
