Mr. K. Franka, who goes by "Franka" or "Ed" because of the business name, took ownership of the long established Ed Smith Upholstery store in Brick, NJ in 1984. Franka has always loved the challenge and artistic nature of his work with the goal of providing unique work on each project. He honed his creative skills since a young boy working in upholstery with his brother and other family members.
In addition to bringing design visions to life, we love to take quality furniture pieces and refresh them for new purpose. Enjoy a sampling of our "before & after" below. Khaled Franka is an artist with upholstering furniture! We were recommended to Khaled from a neighbor.
We had a flowered sectional couch with 2 flowered chairs & a solid colored ottoman. Initially we thought we would cover our furniture with slip covers but decided to redo the entire set.
Khaled redid the entire couch & chairs with new stuffing & changed the armrest on the couch from a more square look to a rounded. He also helped us choose a pattern for the chairs & ottoman to compliment the solid blue couch. The armrests fit perfectly. He also made us 3 pillows in the striped pattern. We are

My Jet Ski seats were torn and needed the covers replaced. I brought new seat covers on a Tuesday and I was quoted a price and told they would be finished by Saturday. On Thursday, I received a text message with photos indicating that the seats were finished. The seats look fantastic! Good price, great quality, highly recommend.

K.Franka did a terrific job reupholstering two of our antique chairs. At our request, he re-stuffed our rocking chair while maintaining the original internal spring structure. He also did a very clean, professional job reupholstering our round chair. The job was completed long before the promised date and we were thrilled to breathe new life into these family heirlooms. We will definitely be repeat customers.

I was very hesitant about having my Risom chair, which retails for $1600, reupholstered. I knew that I couldn’t do it myself. I search the reviews of upholsterers near me and read the reviews-Ed Smith Upholstery stood out from the all the others. I came into the shop and told Mr. Franka that I had a Risom chair, and he said “Which one? The Playboy Chair.” I knew I found the man I could trust with my chair.
I gave him a copy of the Richard Avedon ad, shot in the 60’s as a guide. His work is amazing. The chair looks great. I am so happy that I found him. He is the man for the job. Keep up

The mesh on our 25 yo patio chairs was finally ripping but the frame was still solid. We painted them and brought to Mr Franka to replace the sling. The fabric he had on hand turned out beautifully. Well worth the effort to bring these back to life. Don't replace...repair and reupholster! Very nice man and the ultimate Springsteen fan.

I had a weird request to cut an outdoor cushion in half to fit it in my outdoor furniture and he did it. When I first called he knew exactly what I needed without ever seeing the project and was able to do it for a very reasonable price. Once I dropped the cushion off he had it done within the hour even though I didn't need it done so fast. Very nice guy and he did amazing work.

As soon as we walked in. It smelled like brand new fabric and wood. There were projects being worked on.. as far as I could tell.. there were lots of cool materials.. to be left alone in that place would be mind-numbing.. but luckily Franka was there.. he walked us over to some books and asked us if there was anything that we liked. Sure. Those things were okay. And then he turned around and out of nowhere he pulled out a.. bolt or a roll of fabric if you will.. and it was exactly what we were looking for.. he stripped the fabric from our chairs so he could keep the pattern. We took back the chairs

I tried to post before and after pictures but can't figure out how. I had 3 office chairs reupholstered and Franka did a fabulous job!
Franka does awesome work! I'm very happy with his service. He told me one week for one chair and one more week for the other two and they were all done on time. Franka is a true craftsmen and does excellent work, I highly recommend him.
