Chicago kiDDS Pediatric Dentistry specializes in pediatric dental care for infants, children and those with special needs. Pediatric dentists (sometimes referred to as pedodontists) differ from family or general dentists because they focus solely on treating and meeting the needs of. One of the goals of good dental care and hygiene is to prevent tooth decay and cavities.
Like general and family dentists, pediatric dentists complete a minimum of four years of dental school. After graduating from dental school, dentists who want to specialize in children's care have the option to undergo another two years of residency training. During this period, these future pediatric dentists see infants, children, adolescents, and patients who have special needs.
Preventing and treating cavities is a major part of pediatric dentistry. Roughly 1 in 5 children aged 5-11 years has an untreated cavity (source: cdc.gov), making it a major issue when it comes to children's healthcare. While it's common for children to develop one or more cavities while they are in the process of forming dental habits, it's far from unavoidable.
It's an unfortunate fact of life that kids are extremely prone to cavities. While genetics and the availability of fluoridated water play a role in your child's risk, their developing dental hygiene habits are a likely culprit. Home to the best pediatric dentists near Tinley Park, Chicago kiDDS provides preventative dental sealants to help protect our patients' permanent teeth.
