Shelby Baptist Medical Center started as a community hospital in 1959, opening with only 35 beds, 8 physicians and 25 nurses. Back then, patients had to ring a doorbell to be seen by a nurse in the emergency department.
But today, almost 60 years later, Shelby Baptist Medical Center has become a cutting edge hospital located in the heart of Alabaster, equipped with 252 beds to care for those in our community, eliminating the need for patients to travel to downtown Birmingham to receive high-quality, compassionate care.Over the past few decades, we have undergone several changes, but one thing has remained the same: our quality care.

Upsetting to see people in the medical field to act so heartless and RUDE! People in the front desk are ridiculously rude and unprofessional, they don't like dealing and/or talking to people in a nice way, they probably shouldn't be at a front desk. People walk in this place already NOT feeling good so the last thing they want is nasty and rude attitudes from the people that are supposed to be helping them getting to start the process of "feeling better " ...sad, sad, sad!!! See there's nothing wrong with the 🌎 the world is still round, the problem is the people! People that don't know how to

Came to the ER with severe lumbar and left leg pain, writhing in my seat because sitting is so painful. They wouldn’t let me lie on the floor while I waited for almost 2 hours, crying and shaking in pain. When they finally saw me, they gave me a non-steroidal injection, a muscle relaxer injection, and a lidocaine patch which this younger EMT managed to screw up. No treatment for pain. I went to Grandview ER 2 days later because, guess what? I’m still in PAIN! Went home that night with some relief. 2 days go by and I have an MRI showing a herniated disc at L5-S1 pushing on my sciatic nerve cause

I was there about 2 years ago. VERY pregnant with my daughter, was put on protective watch (to put it nicely) when I had no signs or symptoms of being violent or combative. My mother came to visit me one night, with the intention of spending the night with me because she lived out of town, and one of the staff very rudely told her that "you will have to get a hotel room because you can't be with your daughter" which is me. My mother told her that she couldn't afford one especially last minute, when she had just arrived a few hours prior, and the staff eventually let her stay. They had multiple

VERY DISAPPOINTED...
My mom has been in this hospital now since 1:30 pm yesterday Aug 6th 2021. Last night she asked for help to the bathroom, her nurse waited over an hour. She used the bathroom on herself waiting for help. Finally, after I came back from dinner, I found a male nurse that immediately helped me change her and clean her up. It took 7.5 hrs to get her moved from the ER to a room.
Today I have been here for 3 hours and we called the nurse at 6:00pm and it is now 6:47pm and the nurse as never came. I changed her pants and her pull up because when I got here she had been sitting in

I took my dad here tonight with sever abdominal pain followed my mild fever. We were very concerned with the possibility of appendicitis. They would not take us serious. We sat in the waiting area for 7 hours with my dad in sever pain!! When people that came in way after us began to get called back I asked the receptionist where we were at on the list to only have him be very rude! He Stated we had only been waiting for 4 hours. Then he let me know that we were put in the computer system as kidney pain!!! My dad never mentioned kidneys at all. Would not recommend… I understand the over whelming

My husband had a mountain biking accident and hit his head very hard and needed stitches on his leg from his wreck. The doctor stitched him up and sent him home. He ended up having a headache for days while tossing and turning on the couch in pain for 3 more days, but the doctor didn't even check his head or send him home with pain meds. This was last August 2020. I tried to call to make a complaint but was met with line after line of wild goose chase calls to nurses who didn't seem to think it was a big deal. I thought the level of care was extremely unprofessional, but I dropped it. A few weeks
