The historic Hilo region is diverse and unique in its people, culture and weather. Over 43,000 people call Hilo their home. Our sleepy town is known throughout the state as a great place to raise a family. We enjoy tropical weather and lush surroundings thanks to regular morning and evening rain showers.

Because of health issues I have had constant, if infrequent, contact with the staff over the last four years. I have been admitted three times, once via the ER.
The medical personnel is the most attentive and caring of any I have ever experienced anywhere. The efficiency and uniformity of data sharing is excellent and very reassuring. The bureaucracy of the hospital seem to operate efficiently and out of sight. We have had nothing but positivity since the first day we walked through the door.
This hospital is what aloha is!

Such a scary experience to need an emergency room visit while on vacation with your young infant child but this emergency department staff including the PA Paige Lovett, the RNs Maggie, and Dan helped to ease our fears and really listened to our concerns. Since both my husband and I are in healthcare, we tend to be a bit more critical of care but this was top notch care received including incredibly prompt lab draws, lab results, and discharge. We also had a follow up question and were able to reach them quickly after discharge and received a follow up phone call a couple days later to check on

Reported my sister to CPS as she just gave birth at their facility and is an active user and lives in an unsafe home for a child. Called the hospital to make sure the social worker was able to find her and they TOLD MY SISTER I REPORTED HER TO CPS. Their incompetence, unscrupulous, and unprofessional way of conducting themselves is beyond angering and baffling. I cannot express how angry I am that this happened.

Got a slip/fall/concussion on a muddy coffee plantation tour. : ( Due to severity of impact and memory loss, needed CT to rule out skill fracture and brain bleed. Drove all the way from Kona because of this facility's reputation. Was not disappointed. From intake to discharge, this was a high performance team on the move! Despite being slammed with every room full, they got me a hallway bed, and did intake with a mobile cart. A guy coded in the room next to me (they revived him!) and with that and plenty more going on, I still got my scan, (good news, clear!) and discharge in under an hour. This

The nursing staff here are great, the ER doctor, Dr. Gerber was absolutely terrible. I brought my son in for fever, chills, body aches and GI pain, he was not able to eat or drink in 3 days. The ER doctor did not listen to the patient in regards to symptoms, he ran tests that produced no answers. I requested a flu and COVID test be done, the doctor agreed to do a COVID test but refused to test for flu because he has not seen any flu this season. The flu has not been eradicated and perhaps he hasn’t seen it because they won’t test for it. My son was diagnosed with heartburn and sent home with

Came in with moderate, consistent pain that would worsen to sharp pain...
They got me in quick and things looked promising as they spoke about how they would handle the situation...
The diagnosis and what they found was directly correlated with what I was experiencing but they diagnosed the problem with a symptom and neglected the root and failed to ask about what kind of pain I was having. Though I mentioned in triage that it was the worst of this recurring pain I’ve ever had.
Came into the ER with pain. Left with pain and no hope left for this “medical center” and their ability to treat

Truly the worst experience i’ve ever had with medical professionals. the first time i went in for neck and head pain they gave me benadryl and pain meds through an IV. the nurse burst a capillary bed in my arm and i had major bruising for 2+ weeks. i visited twice more for the same symptoms and was prescribed opioids that have done absolutely nothing, was given zero answers or any type of diagnosis. the doctors were rude, rushed and just honestly disrespectful. they have done zero tests. I am now driving across island to waimea hospital to try and get actually adequate medical care. i’ve never

Didn’t have the best experience with them, but I give it 3 stars because the ER nurse , Douglas, and Dr. Fitzgerald were heroes that saved my dad’s life. We went in and out of the ER for four nights straight, but no doctor really cared enough to do a thorough check of what was happening with him.... the fourth night we got lucky because we were seen by Doug and Dr. Fitz. They’re AMAZING and they provided the best care for my dad.
