In the hearth industry, there are a number of different types of wood burning appliances, and it can be confusing. When searching for product and using the filters on our website, it helps to understand the different types of wood burning appliances. Here we discuss the various types of cord wood and pellet burning appliances to help you find the right product for your needs.
Did you know that over half of the energy that comes from the burning of wood actually comes from the combustion of the flue gases and not the actual solid wood? It's true! This is referred to as the secondary combustion of flue gases or gasification. Some appliances even have mechanisms where flue gases are burned three times, known as tertiary combustion.
Many people often confuse gas fireplaces, gas inserts and gas logs sets. Each one is different and serves a different need, and below we discuss the three different appliance types. Gas log sets are the most simple and basic appliances among the three. A gas log set consists of a gas burner and a log set or some other media, such as stones, glass or geometrically formed stones, often referred to as "geoshapes."
At Mazzeo's, we sell gas stoves that are designed to be installed into chimneys as well stoves that use their own venting systems, known as direct vent. Here we discuss the differences. Direct vent appliances are not, contrary to popular belief, appliances that just "vent directly out the wall". Direct vent means that the appliance takes its combustion air from outside rather than inside the room, and it does this via the venting system.
