LUMBERYARD's mission is to serve as a national model for the development of contemporary performing arts - serving as a linchpin for the New York City performing arts ecosystem. Our production residencies provide unmatched technical residency support so that artists' work is fully-developed before premiering at prominent institutions nationwide.
Our mission includes operating as a cultural hub and economic catalyst for the mid-Hudson Valley and our commitment to positive social change is realized through strong social programs that provide arts education, job training, and intervention for incarcerated teens. LUMBERYARD is a non-profit performing arts and film campus located in the heart of Catskill, New York.

Services
In addition to our performance seasons, we engage with the Greene County and broader Hudson Valley communities through audience education events, artist meet-n-greets, youth programming, and other community-facing initiatives. In partnership with Columbia Greene Workforce Development NY, Lumberyard provides internships and on-the-job training to local teenagers, who also earn a summer wage.
In partnership with Columbia Greene Workforce Development NY, Lumberyard provides internships and on-the-job training to local teenagers, who also earn a summer wage. Local high school students earn a summer wage while acquiring invaluable exposure to the inner workings of theater management, including the business, creative, and technical elements of production (e.g., crew load-in, ushering, box-office, and concessions).
Fresh Start is an arts education intervention program designed to reduce recidivism rates for incarcerated juveniles. Starting at the nearby Hudson Adolescent Offender Facility (HOAF), incarcerated teenagers worked through creative and challenging exercises that helped them tell their own stories, discover more about themselves, and explore new means for expressing their wants, needs, and desires.
LUMBERYARD relies on the generosity of people like you to make our artistic work (subsidized technical rehearsals via the American Artistic Innovation Fund) and community outreach work (Fresh Start, Young Performers, and Junior Crew) possible. We hope you will join us in supporting the work you see onstage and in the community by making a tax-deductible contribution today.
