A divorce is the legal ending of a marriage. New Mexico is a "no-fault" state which means if one spouse wants a divorce and believes there is no chance of reconciliation, then the divorce may be granted without any other reason. There is no "common-law" marriage in NM. If you have been living together but were never legally married, you cannot get a divorce.
A Kinship Guardian will have all the same powers as a parent except for the right to consent to an adoption or consent to a marriage. Children living with them because the parents can't take care of them because of medical reasons;. After a District Court Judge signs an order granting a Kinship Guardianship, you will be able to sign all legal documents on behalf of the children.
A Power of Attorney is a document that you sign giving someone else permission to sign things and make decisions for you. Someone appointed as your Power of Attorney can sign checks, deeds, taxes and other important documents for you. To affect real estate, you may have to record the Power of Attorney with your County Clerk's Office.
You can apply to legally change your name if you are over the age of 14 and a resident of New Mexico. After a District Court Judge signs an order changing your name, you can apply for a new birth certificate and then a new social security card and driver's license.
