Services
Medical Center Barbour has been serving Barbour County and the surrounding areas for a very long time. We were founded as Salter Hospital in 1930, but the hospital location that we are at now was built in 1953. We were founded with patient care in mind, and are committed to treating all patients in need.
Do you want to be a part of a team that makes a difference in the lives of your community?! If so, then Medical Center Barbour is looking for you to join our MCB family! When you need emergency care, Medical Center Barbour is here for you. We have been providing lifesaving care, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week since our ER was built in 1998. And since that time, we have expanded to include lifesaving telehealth stroke care though UAB's eMedicine Program. When you or a loved one needs emergency care and need it now, Medical Center Barbour is ready to take care of you.
Our Senior Behavioral Health Unit consists of 17 licensed psychiatric beds to treat the mental health conditions of both male and female patients who are age 55 and older. Our intensive treatment services are designed to provide a safe, comfortable atmosphere for patients requiring close supervision, protection, and assistance with acute crisis management and symptom control.
Our Medical Surgical floor cares for patients of all ages, at all times, with a staff consisting of Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and patient care technicians, so each patient and family member can rest assured that they are receiving quality care, right here at home. And when you or your loved one needs a little extra care before returning home, we are here to provide that, too, with our Swing Bed Program.

NOT RECOMMENDED, sat in the Lobby over a hour & half & no one came to check on me or to let me know anything! Do NOT come here if you are seeking immediate emergency assistance ! If i could rate a 0 i absolutely would, you can hear the staff up front from the back laughing , talking , goofing off when you have sick patients in the front , HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. ‼️

The nurses and staff was so helpfully with me and my daughter they went over and beyond for us while we was here. They made is comfortable during our stays even fixing us a goody bag through the night. Thank yall so much for the hospitality. Dr Reed was the best he helped out so much and those nurses was the sweetest

I can’t speak for the rest of the hospital, but Dr. Reed in the ER is phenomenal! My grandfather is a healthy guy and he became very sick, we thought for sure it was a stroke. If it wasn’t for the imaging and the docs catch, we wouldn’t have known it was actually his gallbladder that was bad and needed to be removed. My grandfather means everything to me, and I’m so grateful for Dr. Reed & Dr. Sharon Davis who performed his surgery.

I had to go to the ER because I got a fish hook stuck in my hand. Their ER staff cut it out quickly and painlessly! Everyone was really nice and didn't even make fun of me when I told them how it happened (my wife's fault). I live in Dothan, but it's good to know when I come fishing here on the weekends that there is a place I can go for emergencies like that.

I cut my hand unplugging my hedge clippers - they came on as I was unplugging them. The cuts were not clean. The Physician and nurses were kind, efficient and stitched my fingers up beautifully. Today the scars are barely noticeable. I could not have gotten better care anywhere. Thank you. Catherine McKenzie

If I could give 0 stars I would. This is the absolute WORST hospital I have ever been to. The only two good Doctors there are Dr. Uyamadu and Dr. Gabrielson. The other two I have seen, Dr. Mahurin and Dr. Reed are terrible!! Last year, my daughter and I were seen by Dr. Reed because we were both running fevers and had chills. We weren’t tested for flu or anything. He only listed to our lungs and said our lungs sounded clear and said it was probably something viral and sent us on our way. One day later, we were so sick. I could barely move, I was weak, high fever, chills, body aches and hallucinations

I needed a routine blood test, my doctor faxed a requisition over to the hospital. I’m from out of town and was a little apprehensive about going to an unfamiliar hospital. But these people were amazing. I was treated with kindness and respect, putting me at ease after all. They quickly registered me, led me to the blood lab and completed my test. I would HIGHLY recommend this hospital and the wonderful people (especially Kendra) that work here!
