Janus Nelson attended the Fashion Design School on Newbury Street in Boston. At 19 years old, she opened The Workshop in Litchfield located underneath the old corner drugstore on South St. She rented the store for $20 a month. It was here she made and sold her own line of clothing and the business took off.

Charming location on a private courtyard. Cool creative clothes and shoes - rides the edge of wearable and artistic without going tipping too far in either direction. Worth a drive - their buyer's eye is so good it would probably be worth calling ahead and making an appointment for them to pull clothes they think you might like.

Excellent quality and selection of women's clothing nestled in a cute building just off the Litchfield green. The owner and staff were extremely helpful and friendly--all about customer service. I bought a pair of Lisette pants--just pull them on and they fit great (I never knew pants without a zipper could fit so well!)..great purse and boot selection, too. Also, so nice to support a unique local store as a change from the usual chain clothing stores..I'll be back!
