Across Siskiyou County are many landowners that have a strong connection to the land that they own. Some of these lands are working agricultural or woodland landscapes that have supported generations of families, while others are simply special places with scenic, ecological or recreational value. People who want to conserve and protect their land into the future sometimes need financial assistance or someone to carry forward their wishes.
Land trusts, such as Siskiyou Land Trust, are nonprofit organizations that actively work with willing landowners and agencies to conserve land. This is accomplished either by creating conservation easements on private land or by ownership of lands fee and clear. Conservation easements protect land in perpetuity and must be monitored annually by SLT to enforce the terms of the easements.

Truly a community-based organization, the Siskiyou Land Trust has been blessed with fantastic Board members over the years, many of whom continue as core volunteers and supporters! Stacy Smith is passionate about land conservation and has a background in federal land management. Stacy served on the Board and was Board secretary for many years before retiring in 2021.
Siskiyou Land Trust is passionate about community involvement, and many of our holdings and collaborations are public spaces where people can visit, walk and recreate, enjoying the beauty of nature on lands that are permanently protected and maintained. We invite you to enjoy these special spaces, and become land stewards yourselves, leaving no trace and taking care of the land as if it were your own.
