My mother would want me to tell you first about my fancy book-learnin', so let's get that out of the way. I completed my BA in music and English at Stanford University in 1992, and then moved to sunny Minnesota for my graduate studies. I earned my master's degree (2000) and PhD (2009) in Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
As the story goes, when the Buddha became enlightened, he did what all of us would do. He put it on Facebook. In his time (somewhere between the 4th and 6th century BCE), he took the low-tech approach and just started telling everyone what he had learned after sitting in meditation for 49 days straight.
Once you and your organization learns more about healing-centered engagement, it will be crystal clear that this is the anti-racist approach that we all need. Shifting your organization's culture to better align with your values isn't always comfortable. In fact, you'll probably experience all the feels.

Dr. Devjani (Juni) Banerjee-Stevens offers individual therapy to people who are ready to examine how personal, intergenerational, and societal trauma has affected their ability to thrive. She is especially interested in helping the helpers (therapists, nurses, teachers, physicians, etc.) who are experiencing their own compassion fatigue and burnout due to serving people with extensive trauma histories.
