Services
California Urban Lumber mills and sells lumber from trees cut by local municipalities or tree service companies in Northern California. All trees were removed when necessitated by natural mortality, disease or insect damage, new construction, root damage to sidewalks or foundations, wild fire control and storm damage.
California Urban Lumber is your one-stop-shop for custom milling. We have the machinery to custom mill nearly any unique piece you require for your projects. We are one of the only mills in California that has a planer that can plane and sand a slab, glue up, table top or counter top that is up to fifty two inches wide and four inches thick.
California Urban Lumber has several business partners (including tree service companies and municipalities), that supply us with logs. However, we are always searching for choice pieces. Please consider joining us in our quest to keep these beautiful logs from going to waste. The chart below shows the species and diameters we are usually seeking, but nearly any large hardwood log is desirable.

The first reviewer nailed it on the head! I built a butcher block table top for a desk that I needed sanded. I must have called 15 different lumber yards and they either wanted me to buy the lumber from their yard or they wanted to charge $120 just to turn on the machine to sand my table. Right as I was about to give in and pay over $120 to get my table top sanded I was directed to California Urban Lumber. Bill Ridings and Trevor were the two guys that helped me. Both were extremely nice. A refreshing change of pace from some lumber yard employees who were more about the contractor than the DIYer

I looked all over for someone who could help me take some 100+ year old redwood lumber salvaged off of a historic house and mill it so that I could re-purpose it to make end tables and coffee table. After trying all the big, and small, lumber yards around Concord, Pleasant Hill and Martinez, I was finally directed to California Urban Lumber. Bill Ridings was very helpful and nice and when he was done with my old lumber, it was beautiful and ready for some new woodworking!
