Founded in 1900 by brothers John Selby and Frank H. Kean, Kean's Fine Dry Cleaning was originally called Southern Steam Laundry. The company washed, dried, and folded clothes as well as finely pressed collars for LSU students. Southern Steam Laundry operated in a small building on Government Street and would pick up and deliver laundered clothes on horse-drawn wagons.
