Law Office Of Amanda J. Cook
The Law Office of Amanda J. Cook is a full service family law firm located in Gig Harbor, Washington. Because we limit our work to only one area of the law, we do it exceptionally well. In addition to knowing the mechanics of a divorce, child support, or custody case, we understand relationships. Relationships are emotional and emotions drive motives.

There is no other area of law in which the process is so affected by the emotions. Many family law attorneys will attempt to treat a divorce as a sterile business transaction, refusing to acknowledge the emotional element. We think that's a mistake. Your attorney serves you best when he or she understands the motives of your opponent, and in family law, those motives are typically driven by people's emotions.
Services
The lawyers at the Law Office of Amanda J. Cook PLLC can help you understand your rights to child custody and visitation when you and your spouse are seeking separation or divorce. Whether you are a mother or father, we believe that all fit and loving parents have the right to custody or visitation with their child, and want to assist you in understanding the laws and how to navigate the legal process.
If you are the parent of a child that does not live primarily with you, or if you are getting a divorce from your spouse, the court may order you to pay child support and/or spousal support. If you have questions about these two types of support, what to do if you are ordered to pay them, or what to do if your spouse has been ordered to make payments and is not, our law firm can help.
The provisions of a court order absolutely must be followed. If someone is not following parenting or support orders, he or she may be brought before the judge on a motion for contempt. If the judge finds that a person has knowingly refused to follow a court order, a wide array of sanctions can be imposed, including monetary fines or even imprisonment.
If you are planning to file for divorce in Washington state, or if your spouse already has filed for divorce, it is essential to learn more about the division of assets and liabilities in the state. For the most part, any property acquired after the date of your marriage and prior to the date of your separation-both assets and liabilities-will be subject to division in your divorce.
As a results-driven law firm, we strive to focus on the end goal rather than getting bogged down in the process. All too often a divorcing spouse can "lose the forest for the trees." Don't let your attorney dedicate significant financial and emotional resources to win an inconsequential battle when you should be focusing on winning the war itself.

I had a phone consult with Amanda to discuss a settlement after a dissolution of an intimate partnership. The consult was on a Wednesday afternoon. She told me she would have a settlement letter drafted by the following week and out to me. It took her four additional weeks to generate a letter. Covid was a complicating factor, however each Friday afternoon that I called to check on the status of my letter, there were excuses and almost outright hostility. No emails or calls to update me on progress. When they finally generated the letter and sent it out, they didn’t send a final copy to me. I

Amanda and her team were a welcome relief. The first attorney I hired in my divorce was shockingly terrible, and led to me completely losing faith in the family law system. Luckily I switched to Amanda. Amanda, Corie and Logan were incredibly professional and responsive. Their team provided expert personal advice without wasting time and money. Amanda and her team have my highest possible recommendation if you're looking for a family law attorney.

Amanda and Corie will fight for you. They are professional and caring. Trust Amanda when she says preparation is the key. The last thing you want is to go into mediation or court unprepared.

Amanda and Corie were awesome. They were so patient and kind, even when my questions were oftentimes panicky and angst-ridden they reassured me. Costs were reasonable. Would not hesitate to highly recommend.

I had a somewhat unusual case that required a firm but measured approach. Amanda and her staff were absolutely wonderful. Amanda had a thorough knowledge not only of the law but of the legal ramifications of each option she presented. We are very pleased with the counsel we received and would recommend Amanda to anyone.
