January 14th, 2019: Hasn't been a good experience so far. I ordered my mattress on the 4th of December (40 days ago!!) and still haven't received it. I was first told that it takes 15 business days. So the 26th of December. That's already a LOT for a mattress. I sent an email the 24th to check in. They tell me it is scheduled to ship on the 5th of January. Why the delay? They say because the factory was off for two weeks for the holidays. Something I should have been told when ordering. I call on the 7th assuming that it has been shipped.. but no. Bought a Tatami king and we are very satisfied with the product. The only issue is the delivery process. Essentia has selected Fed Ex. They just dropped the huge and heavy box inside our apt and left. We were unable to install the bed or even open the box without asking for help. What happened to the white glove service we got sold?

Last night 11:30pm; I'm ranting about the buyers remorse I've experienced w our Essentia Dormeuse Queen mattress we've owned for 5+ years. Essentia came under fire from the FTC (2012) for making false claims regarding the lack of VOC's in their products. What pushed us to make this astronomical purchase was the positive health/environmental impact this product had over other mattresses, we felt it outweighed the cost. Now I'm 100% convinced this purchase was a mistake. I wish there was some type of satisfaction guaranteed.

I really don't like shopping for furniture because you are either inundated with sales people who will not leave you alone to look or you can't find a one to answer your questions. I needed a new mattress so was not looking forward to shopping but I was very pleasantly surprised when I walked into the Essentia store (1799 D Street, Berkeley, CA). Good in store selling tactics got us to spend $7200+ on our king size Dormeuse and frame. We actually paid for pillows too- guess they saw us coming.
We had a terrible experience like most yelpers state, regarding the delivery. They call it "white glove." While ultimately the mattress didn't work out for me I had nothing but exceptional support from the Essentia team. Andrea in particular made sure I was taken care of and I'm left with only good things to say about my experience. If I were to base my review solely on my shopping experience I would have given it 5 stars. Joanne was simply wonderful. Unfortunately this review includes my experience with Essentia Customer Care or lack thereof. I first fired off an email to customer care January 11th requesting an ETA on the mattress we purchased on the 8th. My second email to Customer Care was sent out Jan 12 to request information as to why the UPS driver was not able to deliver the mattress to the inside of my garage as we were told they do, instead to find it at the foot of my driveway where you would normally leave your

When we bought our mattress in Laval, Joanne was very kind and provided us with stellar customer service. We bought a Classic 8 and thought it was firm but that we would get used to it over time. After 3 months, we knew we wouldn't adapt (I weigh 150lbs and my spouse, 120) so we asked if we could upgrade. There seem to be no issue (the other one is almost 1K more expensive), but we have been following up 3 times in the last 7-8 days to get the customer service to send the documentation for us to proceed. We have another week done on a mattress that we feel is not adapted to us. On our last visit

I'll revise this review if I ever actually see my order delivered. Essentia has lovely mattresses in the showroom, but appalling customer service. I placed my order online six weeks ago. They charged my credit card immediately and have not had any contact with me since then. I've emailed, called the customer service number multiple times which just drops you into Natasha's voicemail. I finally reached someone helpful in their Santa Monica store who informed me that Natasha had left the company and she would get someone else to contact me ASAP. Still, no contact from anyone

Worst Delivery Experience Ever! Store personnel are nice, online ordering is great, but good luck getting your mattress. I have wasted three days and four delivery windows - and still do not have my mattress. No one shows up and no one calls. Essentia may want to reconsider using unreliable third parties to deliver their expensive mattresses.

I recently purchased a classic 8 matress as well as 2 pillows. We have been using the matress for over a month and we are pleased with the comfort of the matress. We were also happy with the service from Joanne in the showroom. We did however have an issue with one of the pillows and Essentia has since contacted me and resolved my issue and was they were very helpful. I would now completely recommend the product and customer service. Thank you!

I can't say enough good things about Essential Mattress and Donna, our sales rep, at the Berkeley store. First let me give some history...we've been Tempur-pedic mattress owners for years so when it was time to bump up to a King it was a no brainer to just purchase another tempur-pedic Grand mattress. We purchased the mattress from Dylan at this store. The purchase and delivery were seamless. I am so disappointed in the Essentia Classic 8 mattress my husband and I purchased from this store I cannot even articulate my disappointment in words.
I am only giving this store two stars because we appreciate the diminished environmental impact generated in producing this mattress in comparison to other mattresses, and my husband has noticed reduced numbness in his arm since we began sleeping on our Classic 8.

Did lots of research on mattresses and found my way to the natural latex type. I am so glad I did! This was a new experience so being able to try the bed out in the store was very helpful. Very efficient and knowledgeable staff...low pressure, which I appreciate. Slept on this bed for a couple months now and I actually look forward to bed time! Yes, the mattress is exceptionally expensive, but that's the price you'll have to pay for a bed that makes you feel like you're sleeping on God's beard.
I hesitated for a very long time in purchasing an Essentia bed mainly because it's so costly, but after shopping around and trying numerous more "mainstream" mattresses I realized that there is really no comparison to Essentia's products.

Visited the store today. Disappointed. Saleswoman didn't know technical details of her product- didn't really understand the difference between open cell and closed cell foam, which really matters when selling foam mattresses. Also, they have small selection plus very high prices. The mattress we liked was $4,300, the one we bought elsewhere in Berkeley was $1,650.
The mattresses are comfortable. The store just needs to train their people better and maybe be more competitive price wise.

The only reason why the storefronts exist is simply because most people will not buy a mattress without first taking it for a spin.
The comfort is absolutely amazing, the past year I have looked forward to hopping into bed and being cradled every night. I'm using the term 'hop' very loosely, as any owner will know there is no hopping or funny business on this baby, just DEEP, restful sleep.

UPDATE: Adam was no longer at Essentia. Jason was very responsive in getting to me. He told me to send a picture showing the dents (using something like a ruler as a gauge for how deep the dents go) and then he may be able to help.
I don't know that the dents I'm talking about are big enough for anything to happen but I appreciate his continued attention.

This review is in regard to my recent experience in the store, not the Essentia products (which I did not have the full opportunity to try). Yesterday, in the late afternoon my husband and I entered the store and were greeted by a small black dog that jumped all over us and started nipping at my ankles. The saleswoman was speaking with another customer, and I assumed it was the customer's dog.
The dog continued to jump on my husband and I as we attempted to look at the mattresses, and at several points, the dog actually jumped up onto the floor model mattresses, rolling around on them.

I bought a mattress here about a month ago and I am pretty happy with it. I like that they list all the chemicals (I did quite a bit of research beforehand, and this seemed like a good choice), and they are much more transparent about price than other shops, even if their prices are higher than a sleep train, for example.
