At the Low Vision Institute, we envision a world where people with visual conditions, such as macular degeneration have a clear path to better eyesight. We want to provide that path. For over 40 years, that's what has driven us to develop comprehensive evaluations, therapies, and devices that have allowed thousands of people to see again, and return to the activities that they only dreamed of doing.
Every person with low vision is different. Their eyes are different. Their goals are different. We tailor our program to the individual and help them to have fuller, more independent lives - to see better and live better. We know that if you are reading this you probably don't have macular degeneration, but maybe you know someone who does.

Services
Every member of our team treats each patient with respect and the highest standard of care. We pour our passion into every task we take on with the goal of helping all patients achieve better vision. Please let our Ft. Lauderdale low vision team know if there is anything we can do to make your experience better.
Our main office is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, just minutes from Holy Cross Hospital. We also have convenient locations throughout Florida. Our low vision specialist offers the same great level of service, care and warmth in all of our locations. More and more doctors are becoming aware of the successes we've had and are interested in integrating the RenewView program into their practices.
Since 2002, The AFVR repurposes glasses and aids to provide them to needy patients. Most devices are donated when a patient's vision has changed significantly and can no longer be used by the individual. Dr. Gannon established the Foundation in response to a growing need and an equal generosity of his patients, their families and visual aid suppliers.
Low vision exists when any condition affecting the eye and visual system challenges a patient, reduces their vision, and limits their ability to perform the tasks to survive, thrive, work, and enjoy those things that bring quality and pleasure to their lives. Conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, result in a loss of vision that can not be enhanced through the use of conventional eyeglasses or contact lenses.
The eye itself is approximately the size of a ping pong ball, about one and a quarter inches in diameter. If we were to cut an eye in half, the back half is lined with a very thin tissue. This tissue is the retina of the eye. The retina is about 1/10th of the thickness of a piece of saran wrap, has 10 layers, and contains 125 million cells.

Dr. Gannon gave my son his freedom back! Not only was he thorough, he was attentive, kind and considerate as well! He was able to assess my sons condition and respond accordingly. My son has seen several eye specialists and not a single one could assist him in any way. Thank you so very much, truly you have profoundly changed my sons life!

Amazing group of people. I am legally blind from retinitis pigmentosa and I'm now reading small print again thanks Dr. Gannon and his team. I just wish I had found about this place sooner. My previous eye doctors all spent about 10 minutes with me and then told me nothing else could be done for me and sent me on my way. I feel like every eye doctor I saw before did me a disservice. This is the first eye doctor who actually helped. RP is genetic so I have several other family members with it. I am recommending this place to all of them.

Dr. Gannon was professional, personable, and willing to explain and answer any questions we had. We have seen numerous doctors over the years and Dr.Gannon was the first to fully understand and address our concerns for our daughter’s Oculocutaneous albinism. He made it possible for her to have a window into what it would be like to see almost 20/20 instead of 20/200 with special devices. Dr Gannon was patient with our teenager and made the visit a very positive one. We are thankful to now have him as our low vision specialist!

So glad I found this place. My daughter has Stargardt's and I took her here after everyone else told me there was nothing to be done for her. With her new low-vision glasses she's able to see the chalkboard now from her desk, which is a huge improvement. It's such a blessing to see my child improving and I owe a big "thank you" to Dr. Gannon.

Dr Gannon has been my eye doctor since 1998. I suffer of low vision due to albinism and he has been the only professional who has taken the time to clearly explain my condition. I've been able to accomplish what some people has told me in the past that was out of my reach. Knowledge is power and Dr. Gannon has provided me with ton of knowledge and the instruments to better my life. Can not have higher words for him as a professional, a gentleman and as a person.

I have known Dr. Marc J. Gannon for 15 years. He is one of the most kindest, caring and compassionate doctors I have met in a long time.
He is like the Marcus Welby of optometrists.
He thinks outside of the box so that people with vision impairments can still do some of their same activities that they love like playing cards, knitting, etc.
He's worth checking out!
