Hi, I'm Dr. Schmelzer and that's me in the picture with my Boykin spaniel, Charlie. I started my practice from scratch here in Marion, Ohio in 1980 shortly after graduating from Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry. My practice expanded to Morrow County when I practiced in Mt Gilead for about 10 years in addition to my Marion practice.
The first step is to choose a good toothbrush. You always want to use a soft brush with a small head. A soft brush is hard enough to remove plaque and soft enough not to damage your teeth or gum. The next issue is to choose a good toothpaste. In general any toothpaste that contains Fluoride will do the job, unless you have a special need that is determined by your dentist.
Making the wrong choice for teeth bleaching can at best be a frustrating waste of time and money, or at worst be a painful experience from bleaching sensitivity. A teenager wanting brighter teeth for the prom does not need the same product as a 60 year old adult with aging, yellowing teeth. At our office we WANT you to have a successful whitening experience.
A crown (cap) is a restoration that is placed on teeth that have lost a lot of their structure. There are many different types of crowns, full porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, full metal crowns. Your dentist will explain the advantage and disadvantage of each kind for you. The process of making a crown includes many steps that start in our office with preparing the teeth and taking impressions from the tooth/teeth involved.
Different from all other dental web sites, our FAQ is NOT prepared by one or two doctors. What we have done is to find the best answers for FAQ. Then we organized it here for you.
For example, if you have a question about root canal treatments we guide you to the American Academy of Endodontics FAQ section, so instead of getting your answer from an individual doctor, you will get it from the most reputable reference for root canal treatment issues in the world! All the answers given are for general information only.

Though the staff were quite nice to me, the dentist himself was extremely rude. He didn't care that I was in a lot of pain due to one of my fillings that fell out, which led to exposed nerves in the tooth, and extreme pain. He didn't use (or even suggest using) a local anaesthetic, and passive aggressively rushed putting a temporary filling in my tooth. He didn't even clean out my tooth before putting the temporary filling in. Now I'm experiencing extreme shooting pain coupled with a migraine. So now I'm in an even worse situation than I was before.

I am leaving my original review below but have changed my rating based on the treatment of my partner. She in in a wheelchair and there is no wheelchair access, but that wasn't a big deal I just helped her down the two flights of stairs. Once she was in to see the doctor he was very mean to her and made several cripple jokes. I had a fine experience with him so I am not sure if he hates women the handicapped or both but I would not reccomend him.
Dr. Schmelser and his staff are very friendly and he is an excellent dentist, he is the only dentist I have ever had that caused me 0 pain. even the

Dr. Schmelzer was extremely nice and informative. Usually I am hesitant to go to the dentist but him and his wonderful staff made me feel very welcome. He whitened my teeth as well as fixed some of my orthodontic problems and he has always done a great job with my teeth. I can always trust him with my teeth. Thank you Dr. Schmelzer!!

I am not one to write reviews; however, I really must in this case. I have never been a fan of going to the dentist and have had numerous issues over the years with trying to find a dentist office that was great both in terms of the dentist, and the staff. I can't believe how great The Schmelzer Dental Clinic is, and I actually look forward to going. Everyone there, from the front desk to the dental chair and music is wonderful.
The Schmelzer Dental Clinic is great about billing and coverage issues. They make it very clear what is covered and what is not and there are no surprises.
I wholeheartedly

My first appointment was for a check-up, and he said there were a couple fillings he "didn't like the looks of". I'd had them for years and never had a bit of trouble with either of them, but I trusted him (I shouldn't have), and let him replace them. The charge was many, many hundreds of dollars, and about 9 months later, one fell out! I was just watching TV, not eating anything, and this lump was suddenly in my mouth, and I felt this huge gaping hole in my tooth. I called them about it, and was told that yes, they would fix it, BUT I'D HAVE TO PAY AGAIN! So, anyone I hear of that's looking for

I started going to Dr. Schmelzer back in 2000 he redid my orthodontics (they were not done right from the previous orthodontist). He has always had very good chairside manner, he explains every procedure he is about to perform. I also started taking my children to him as a fegular dentist and an orthodontist. They love going to the Dentist now, he and his staff are so very friendly! Thank you to the Schmelzer team!!!!
