Jerry Reiss has over 35 years of experience with design and administration of employee benefit plans. He achieved the enrolled actuary status in 1983. He is actively enrolled in 2017. In 1982 he passed his associateship exams with the Society of Actuaries, however, he stopped paying dues in 1999 and is no longer a member of the Society of Actuaries.
The legal arena routinely calls upon actuaries to help with complex financial calculations. Because Congress licensed actuaries in ERISA, the federal courts recognize the superior training that actuaries have over accountants and economists with many of these financial calculations. I retained him as a consultant in an elder law matter involving two clients who resided in nursing homes and were applying for Medicaid.
Valuation is the most underrated service in family law and usually is at the heart of all legal malpractice exposure. This is true whether it involves a benefit that later will be divided with a QDRO, real estate holdings, including the marital home, employer stock options or personal stock portfolios, and available income to pay support.
Early in the 90s Mr. Reiss emerged as the number 1 expert doing QDRO's (See testimonials in this website). He no longer offers drafter services except for clients that retain him in significant other ways because most divisions have problems because required valuations were not done while the parties were married and he will not encourage problem divisions.
Malpractice often occurs when a professional's misconduct or failure to use adequate levels of care, skill or diligence in the performance of their professional's duties cause harm to another. Legal malpractice occurs if the lawyer fails to exercise his or her legal expertise at a level of care, skill and learning applied in similar circumstances by the average lawyer in that legal community.

I hired Jerry as my actuary based on a Lawyer friends recommendation.I went to court Jerry's Resume is Very very impressive. After his testimony and when my lawyer was done. Her Lawyer (My X) asked one question which my Lawyer objected too because Jerry had already covered it. He rested his Case. I won hands down. There was no Cross. Thanks Jerry

I have known Jerry 25 + years and long have concurred w Jerry especially about CPAs trying to perform actuarial work. CPAs have no specific training in actuarial field and those who still practice in that area without extra specific training and without retaining a specialist breach at least two ethical requirements: competence and retaining a specialist. Jerry clearly has advanced actuarial training and experience. For actuarial work, Jerry is the epitome of a specialist.

Jerry, a consummate expert, knows his actuary subjects from pensions to alimony. What a great writer! As a Florida Attorney I have first hand experience in using Jerry's services in domestic pension and alimony issues, both a the trial court and appellate levels.
