From our humble beginnings in the 1970's as a precursor to the now ubiquitos "copy shop", Midtown Printing has grown to be Nashville's short-run printing leader. Always at the forefront of printing technology, we have also held on to technology of the past. Utilizing our state of the art digital equipment and antique letterpress puts us at an advantage to serve a wide range of customer needs.

We also house a full service finishing and bindery department to produce everything from perfect bound books to t-shirt transfers. Today, Midtown Printing has one location in the Skyline area of East Nashville. We have built a reputation for being Nashville's premier digital printing company, utilizing state of the art equipment such as the Xeikon 8500 digital web press and HP 7900 Indigo press.
Services
In 1985 Midtown Printing became a pioneer in digital printing with the introduction of the Macintosh computer. Over the last three decades we have invested and reinvested in digital printing equipment to stay on the cutting edge of this fast changing technology.

We currently have a number of Canon B&W and color laser printers, Indigo four color digital offset press, Xeikon digital perfecting web press and other digital devices for imaging and platemaking. In the first few years of the second millennium digital printing has become at least as significant as offset printing and continues to grow in importance.
Prior to the 20th century letterpress printing was the dominant form of reproduction. From the time of Gutenburg until the beginning of the 20th century there was no other process for reproduction short of hand copying manuscripts. Around the same time as Gutenberg, engraving started to gain popularity in the art world with Masters Albrecht Drer and Martin Schongauer producing works rivaling paintings.
Embossing is to raise an image up above the surface of the paper whereas debossing pushes the image down into the surface of the paper. Both techniques provide tactile qualities as well as visual shadow lines that subtly enhance the look and feel of an object. Either process can have color or can be blind i.e. without color.
After a job has been printed, whether it was offset, digital, letterpress or engraved, it still has to be processed to its final configuration. This usually begins by cutting the press sheets down to their final size. If the product is a book the bindery department will then collate and saddle stitch, perfect bind or spiral bind the items.
File preparation can sometimes be the vast territory separating the graphic designer from the printer. We've given it some though and have simplified the process into an easy to remember acronym - FIBS. This stands for Fonts, Images, Bleed and Spellcheck. Let's quickly go over these four points. We need these to make your artwork look like it does on your screen.

Midtown printing is great. They really helped me out when I needed a document printed really quickly for the difficult DMV down the street. If only the DMV had the same customer service : )

I can't say enough good things about Midtown Printing. Very friendly staff, with an extra special thanks to Bev for working with me on our work we needed done. They provided us with exceptional print work. Not only was their work and customer service fantastic, but they were kind enough donate posters for our 2020 tornado relief benefit event, so you know they care about helping the community. Thanks again Midtown Printers! Highly recommended.

I worked with the crew at Midtown to have my letterpress business cards and tags made. They turned out great, were reasonably priced and were printed in a matter of a week. I will totally use them again for all of my projects!!

Pretty disappointing! I work with them through my job. The customer service is not up to par at all. Our "rep" never got back to me about some questions I had. She also said there were no options on business cards which I know is not true. She did not put forth any effort and acted like she did not need our business. And, they charge a lot! I would do some comparison shopping before using them. There are plenty of affordable smaller companies out there that would be thankful for you business.

Words can't express how happy I am with Midtown. After purchasing my wedding invitation suite from Wedding Paper Divas, I wasn't thrilled with the outcome. I decided to give Midtown a try..

I worked with Terri and she was nothing short of phenomenal. I'm an amateur when it comes to this, so she took a great deal of time to explain the process (even how color printing works). She also pointed me in the right direction on procuring the proper paper and envelopes & she even told me the exact quantities so they could optimize the paper. When the paper didn't quite work out

I came to Gert at Midtown Printing with an unusual project: custom cassette tape inserts. Midtown was able to take my existing design from another company's template and the project turned out exactly as I'd hope. Gert had a proof for me the next day and kept me up to date with the status of the project. Their turn around time was very fast and they saved me a lot of money over having the cassette duplication company do the inserts. I'll be back now that I know Midtown can handle any project.

I had my wedding invites printed there and so did one of my friends. We were both very satisfied and the price was very reasonable: 90$ for 200 full-color double-sided postcard-style invites on vintage-looking cardstock. Bev was the person who helped me and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. Will return, probably for my wedding programs and other printed goods.

I heard great things about this shop and was impressed by their friendly website. However, I sent an order in and when I went to pick it up, it was wrong. I spoke with the woman who was in charge of the order and she offered zero apology or even eye contact, and I was still expected to pay for the service. It was a sorry way to do business and I will NOT be back.

Update 10/12 - We received our proof today and they look great! The dude who runs the letterpress. Marty, has been doing this a long time and he was super helpful. Also, we were in a bind and they rushed the job for us, life saver! I'll update again once I receive the final product.

10/6 - These guys are awesome! Jan is currently helping me and I could not ask for better customer service.

We are currently getting our wedding invitations letter pressed so I will update my review once our order is complete!
