Bromwell's first act began when Jacob Bromwell, a veteran and former Baltimore resident, founded the store in 1819 after emigrating to Cincinnati. It originally sold supplies to settlers who, just like him, came to the area in the early 1800s. Achieving success in that endeavor, the business grew to manufacture metal goods for the home, such as flour sifters and tin cups.
Decades later, the manufacturing arm of Bromwell's grew so large, the operation encompassed an entire city block. Understanding people needed fire to heat homes and cook food, they also began making and selling items related to the hearth. The business of fireplaces proved lucrative. So lucrative, in fact, that Bromwell's split its home goods and hearth-centric divisions in 1923.

Love this place! If you're looking to update your fireplace or looking for accessories for your fireplace or mantle there's no better place than Bromwell's. They have full room displays for inspiration. Each piece on display is available for purchase and many are one-of-a-kind. It's easy to to lose track of your time here. So much to look at. They also have a great selection of high-end candles and home gifts.

Installed a new front on upstairs fireplace. We got so many compliments and we had such a wonderful experience with Zach at Bromwell's that we did the basement a year later. There are simply not enough words to express how incredible our experience was with Bromwell's. I knew they had been in business for many years, so when we decided to replace our non-vented fireplace with a vented one, I definitely wanted to include them in our search. But after having spoken to them, there was no doubt who I intended to use. My husband wanted to get at least one more bid, but I was convinced from the onset that we would end up using Bromwell's and we did. Thank God! Our job was much more complicated than we could have anticipated due to the small stone tiles we had recently
