Services
At the Cascadilla School, we know that individual students learn in individual ways. We believe that each student benefits from small classes, a nurturing community, and teachers who understand and respect that student as an individual. Through close relationships formed with their teachers and other adults, students acquire the critical learning skills and the confidence that will ensure success in college and beyond.
The Cascadilla School was founded in the 1870s by two young Cornell University professors, Lucien Augustus Wait (1846-1913), who taught Mathematics, and Bela P. MacKoon (1840-99), who taught Latin and German. They established a tutoring school for Cornell students and for those who planned to enter Cornell and located it in Cascadilla Place, still a part of the Cornell campus and now known as Cascadilla Hall.
An admission interview is required for all applicants (in-person for local applicants, via Skype for international ones). Since our academic program is based on the semester system with rolling admissions, we accept applications at any time. No tests are required in order for admissions, but if you have taken the SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test) or the SLEP (Secondary Level English Proficiency Test), you should forward them to the School.
As part of our emphasis on student-centered learning, the Cascadilla School offers a wide array of courses so that each student has the opportunity to enroll in a challenging and appealing curriculum. The Cascadilla School offers a comprehensive four-year college preparatory high school curriculum.
