Dr. Valerie Smith has been practicing periodontics since 2000. Originally from Philadelphia, she earned her BA in Psychology from Temple University. She then relocated to Boston to attend Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine earning her DMD degree in 1997. From there she attended the Medical College of Virginia where she earned her Certificate in Periodontics in 2000.
She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. We provide you with a comprehensive examination and take the time to address your concerns. In 2001, Dr. Smith started her own periodontal practice in Northern Virginia outside Washington DC. After practicing there for 8 years, she decided to move back to Boston. It was a great move and she now resides in downtown Boston. Dr. Smith is active in several dental societies, including the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, and the Massachusetts Dental Society.

My experience with Dr. Smith and her team has been outstanding. She is very honest and straight forward about what to expect and did a great job during my gum graft procedure. She gave me multiple numbers to reach in case of emergency and called to check in during the evening to see how I was recovering since the procedure. I would recommend their services to many others. The facility follows all COVID rules and regulations to ensure comfort and safety for their customers. Thanks again for my new and improved gums!!!

Absolutely the worst dental facility I've ever been to. Dr. Valerie Smith should lose her license for how she treats her patients because never in my life have I had a dentist drop an F bomb on me because she doesnt comprehend how to file insurance claims. I am appalled by her behavior and will never go there again.

Valerie was completely unprofessional & disrespectful to me. I went to her for a consultation and after the consultation she went over the next steps. Once she started speaking to me, that was when she flipped her switch. She snapped at me for no reason whatsoever. She pretty much stated that she wouldn’t be able to provide me with her service. I let some time pass and I ended up calling her to dispute the bill that she sent me for the consultation along with how she treated me with disrespect and being unprofessional. Her response was you still owe me for the consultation. I said, wow no response

Honestly this whole office made me uncomfortable. I felt like they were pushy and not forthcoming and just odd. When I decided to not pursue treatment with them, they continued to call me daily for a couple months which was quite frustrating. Then just over this past month they have called and asked me to come in and use my insurance monies before the end of the year despite me telling them repeatedly that I am getting treatment elsewhere. I am in the process of having bone grafting and implants placed in the upper right side of my gums. My experience so far with dr Valerie Smith has been extremely good despite my extensive long denied dental care. She performed complex extractions of 5 teeth, placed bone grafting to that area, and few days ago placed the two implants...she is the very professional highly skilled dentist, with the emphasis on the long term dental health, friendly and reliable. I was recommended by my general dentist to see Dr. Valerie Smith concerning deep pockets in my gums. I decided to move ahead with deep root cleaning even though my basic dental insurance would not cover the treatment. I did know beforehand what the cost would be however. It has been over 1 year since my treatment and my gums are now in good shape. I find Dr. Smith to be very knowledgeable of the various treatment options.and able to explain them clearly.
