Salvatore Pilato learned the masonry craft from his father on the island of Ischia near Naples, Italy. He has worked in Fairfield County since the 1970s, owning his own family business since 1981. Sal is dedicated to creating stone work that improves his clients' homes and stands the test of time. He values function and aesthetic, but above all, quality craftsmanship.
He has extensive knowledge of New England stone and founded a masonry supply store. Sal is industrious with a playful attitude. When working, his decades of experience, honest approach and dedication are apparent. Beyond his expert masonry knowledge, clients and contractors value him as a consultant and trouble-shooter in all areas of landscape design and construction.

Services
Masonry works include stone steps, chimneys, fireplaces, patios using dry stone technique or with mortar joints. Sal Pilato has decades of experience in Connecticut's Fairfield County and New York's Westchester County. He and his team are respected for their quality craftsmanship and attentive client service.
The masonry projects featured here include a range of residential work in Fairfield County. Some projects are whimsical, large stepping stone paths. Others are more precise with geometric steps, allowing guests to navigate the property with ease. Level flagstone landings, 4 inch-thick stone steps can create gravitas and substance.
Our stone wall masonry work features mostly locally-sourced stone, field stone and river rock. Connecticut's early settlers and farmers needed to clear stones from their fields. After winter's ground freeze, the spring "harvest" was an abundance of field stone. As a result, they built walls for boundaries and retaining the land's structure.
For an even, seamless look, flagstone is a common material to use for patios. Because of the various stones available, there are more ways to customize a flagstone patio than meets the eye. Examples of flagstone material are slate, bluestone, redstone, sandstone, and limestone. Another consideration, is a patio's pattern.
We do not see the wood-fired pizza oven as a trend. For Sal, born on the island of Ischia, in the bay of Naples, an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven is the equivalent to having a grill or barbecue. For Neapolitans, the best pizza is made at home surrounded by friends and family. So when Sal moved to Redding, CT, shortly after he built his house and expanded his garden, he built an outdoor pizza oven.
