The Tippecanoe Recycling and Solid Waste District is dedicated to supporting recycling and the safe disposal of hazardous materials in Tippecanoe. We fund the household hazardous waste drop-off that operates out of the transfer station at 2770 North 9th Street, two electronics recycling events per year, and four husehold recycling drop-of locatons throughout the county.

Our Staffed Drop Off Collection Site takes 60 kinds of Leftover Products That Can Pollute or Hurt People. The Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off is located at the County Transfer Station at 2770 N 9th St in Lafayette. If you live in the city limits of Lafayette and West Lafayette, curbside recycling and trash services are provided by the Cities.
Services
Our staffed drop off collection site takes 60 kinds of leftover products that can pollute or hurt people. Bring products in a labeled container riding upright in a box, lids on tight to preven spilling in your vehicle. We have limited storage space and are only able to accept 5 gallons of a liquid at a time.
Glass - Clear, Brown and Green Glass Food and Drink Bottles and Jars All other glass must go out with the trash, it contaminates the recycling process, don't recycle pyrex, leaded crystal, drinking glasses, window glass, mirrors or ceramics. Rinse clean, but you do not need to remove the labels. Plastic - Plastic Bottles and Jugs (empty and rinsed out), only if they are #1 or #2.
If you live in a city or town pickup and composting of leaves and brush may be provided. Composting at home is at great alternative to landfilling leaves, grass and weeds and creates a wonderful soil amendment. You can run over them with your mower and leave them on the lawn to decompose over winter.
If you live in the collection area of Lafayette 807-1410 or West Lafayette 775-5242 you pay taxes or fees to the city, and they pick up your trash. Call directly for more details on schedules and specific rules. If you live outside city limits, collection areas or in an apartment with more than four units, you or your landlord arrange collection with a private waste hauler for a fee.
LED lights use 75% less energy than regular bulbs. The initial cost seems high, but lamps last 15-25 years and save money in electric bills. Check with your electricity provider for potental savings on purchasing LED bulbs for your home. Grass blades 3-5 inches tall have more surface area to convert sunlight into food - making stronger roots, a greener, thicker lawn and better disease resistance.
