Services
Richard's Funeral Home Inc. was established in 1894 by a husband and wife, who also had a furniture store in New Madrid. They had two sons, Capito Bestus Richards and Lucious Augustus Richards, and the brothers soon took over the business. During the Depression Era, Leo Hedgepeth started work at the funeral home at around 1936.
The death of a loved one is a time of grief and confusion-and certainly not the time to be making over 50 decisions concerning your funeral service. Planning ahead means you and your family make those decisions together, calmly and sensibly, without the emotional burden. It also reserves your insurance and retirement funds for the living, not to meet the cost of a funeral.
The basic Military Funeral Honors (MFH) ceremony consists of the folding and presentation of the United States flag to the veterans' family and the playing of Taps. The ceremony is performed by a funeral honors detail consisting of at least two members of the Armed Forces. The Funeral Honors rendered to you or your veteran will be determined by the status of the veteran.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) furnishes upon request, at no charge to the applicant, a Government headstone or marker for the unmarked grave of any deceased eligible veteran in any cemetery around the world, regardless of their date of death. When the grave is already marked, applicants will have the option to apply for either a traditional headstone or marker, or a new device (available spring 2009).
A United States flag is provided, at no cost, to drape the casket or accompany the urn of a deceased veteran who served honorably in the U. S. Armed Forces. It is furnished to honor the memory of a veteran's military service to his or her country. Generally, the flag is given to the next-of-kin, as a keepsake, after its use during the funeral service.

I recently lost my father unexpectedly, taking quite a toll on the rest of the family as well as myself. Richards Funeral Home allowed me to grieve without the stress of worrying about funeral arrangements and costs. They laid it all out for me and helped me understand how everything would work. They were overly helpful and everything I needed in that horrible time. If you are looking for a funeral home to give your services, I HIGHLY recommend them.

My family has been waiting on a headstone to be put out for our mother for over 2 year's. When we call we leave a message and no one calls back that is IF someone answers the phone. They have been VERY UNPROFESSIONAL in dealing with this. The loss of a loved one is bad enough without dealing with a shotty funeral service provider. Will not be using them for any other family loss needs
