Services
Each year, suicide claims more lives than war, murder, and natural disasters combined. Yet suicide prevention doesn't receive anywhere near the funding as other leading causes of death. It's up to Walkers like us to make a difference. Together we can change the conversation about mental health and put a stop to this tragic loss of life.
Mental Health America of Aiken County is spreading rocks with uplifting words on them in O'dell Weeks, Hopeland Gardens and the shopping areas on Laurens Street in Aiken. Make sure to post your rocks on Facebook and tag us using #ROH to get your points. The first three individuals who find 50 rocks will receive a gift card from a business in downtown Aiken.
There are many programs that help individuals recognize the symptoms of mental illness. We have provided a listing of the resources that we use to refer those in need of counseling services, diagnosis, support groups, etc. Please visit the website The Coalition for Suicide Prevention of Aiken County.
How are you? No really, How Are YOU? The state of one's mental health is more important now than ever before. The demand for our services has grown exponentially with 500 crisis calls coming in each week vs 35 per week a year ago. Meanwhile, with our funds depleted and community safety as our priority, our ability to have in-person fundraising events has been curtailed.
Nurture Home is our response to women who are homeless with a mental illness. Nurture Home provides structured interventions to empower each of the women to become self-sufficient. Combined with individualized support to improve the mental health of women. The mission of Nurture Home is to provide women that are homeless with a mental illness a safe place to thrive and restore stability within the Aiken community.
