Johnson Hall Theater
Johnson Hall is proud to provide the Kennebec River Valley and the surrounding towns with a state-of-the-art performing arts center showcasing music, theater, entertainment and more! We're currently undergoing fundraising for a brand new, state-of-the-art theater and renovations to the second and third floors that will attract world-class talent for years to come.

From humble beginnings as a livery stable in 1864, Johnson Hall has become a hub of entertainment in Kennebec County. As the oldest opera house in the state of Maine, Johnson Hall has provided residents and visitors with a range of plays, movies, concerts, and other arts over the last 150+ years. Despite its storied history, Johnson Hall is committed to staying with the times.
Services
The mission of the Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center is to promote, create and inspire artistic excellence through the presentation of world-class entertainment and professional performing arts education and to drive cultural and economic growth for our community.

Johnson Hall got its start in 1864 when owner Benjamin Johnson was determined to convert his modest livery stable into a performance hall that would attract patrons from all around the area. From concerts to speakers, masquerades to graduations, and even roller skating, Johnson Hall has hosted a variety of events and performances during its storied time.
Annual gifts, whether large or small, have true power. They are integral to Johnson Hall's character, and through the Annual Fund, everyone who loves Johnson Hall can contribute in a real way to strengthen and enrich performing arts programs for children and adults, and preserve the historic theater.
Johnson Hall believes that the arts are an essential part of life and they naturally enrich all those who participate in them. We are dedicated to helping young people find what sparks their interest in the performing arts and giving them the best possible instruction to guide them along the way. Spark offers three different classes that range from beginner to advanced to meet the needs of students with a variety of skill levels.

It's ok for a community hall but NOT given what the tickets for John Gorka cost. Gorka was great. The hall not so much. It stank. Seats were hard. Sound system had a buzz. Ventilation not great and only two single bathrooms. On the plus side the volunteer staff were very friendly.

We were one of the lucky few who got tickets for an intimate gathering with Paula Cole. I would love to do it again sometime. I hope the renovations are coming along nicely for such a beautiful place.

Fantastic venue in the midst of a major capital campaign to restore the upper levels of the theater. Request a tour from Carrie - you'll be amazed!

We are from Auburn, Maine and came up due to a Facebook post. We came for their tree festive. It was so magical and my kids loved it. We do wish we were closer so we could attend more activities. Great things happening here. Can't wait to come back for another fun activity.

A small but amazing theatre space. The staff cares about local arts and it shows. I have performed here and also been an audience member. I was even fortunate enough to be given a private tour of the MUCH larger theatre upstairs they are currently raising money to refurbish. If you get the chance to see anything here: DO IT!

Great place for community theatre and local music shows. I used to go watch bands play there all the time when I was in high school. Located in downtown Gardiner it's easy to find, but parking can be a pain.
