The story of the San Antonio Shoemakers(SAS) family begins with its founders, Terry Armstrong and Lew Hayden. The two first met in Pittsfield, Maine, but their passion for making quality footwear led them to San Antonio, Texas. After working for a local shoe company, Terry and Lew struck out on their own.
Terry and Lew had a vision of how genuine leather shoes should be made. With determination, and the support of their families, the two pooled their resources to start their first factory in a corner of an unused aircraft hangar on the South Side of San Antonio. In 1976, San Antonio Shoemakers was born.

Services
Quality, comfort, and fit are very important to SAS, which is why we always recommend being professionally fitted at our store. Our in-store fittings include the use of the Brannock Device to get an indication of proper size. A shoe is not truly 'fitted' until it is placed on the foot, but the fitting process can begin with this device.

I rarely have a retail experience where it moves me to write a review but the salesperson, Yim made my shopping experience a smooth, inviting and warm engagement. Others here who have left a review also had such a positive experience and that just goes to show how meaningful her impact in in the store. As soon as I entered the store I was greeted with a warm smile and welcomed in. Yim was knowledgeable in providing me different options, and she informed me I was a completely different shoe size! She encourgaed me to take my time, not rushing to make a sale. She was attentive to my concerns, and

We were back again today - the shoes last well so it has been a while. Quickly found two pairs each with wonderfully attentive and thoughtful service. It is such a pleasure to be in a shoe store where the staff really know and understand shoes, and help you to make good decisions. Formal, casual, running, sneaker, sandals - all good quality and super comfortable, and choose in un-rushed and customer-focused environment

I only wear SAS shoes because I have wide feet. So, I decided to try out the SAS shoe store at 2500 Central Park Avenue in Yonkers, NY. I saw a really nice pair of dress shoes size 8 wide. However, when I tried them on, they were a little tight, so they said they could order them in a double wide and call me when they came in. I agreed, and a week later, I went back to try the double wides on. The double wide was even tighter than the wide one. They said they could stretch them, so I went to Starbucks and they stretched the shoes. When I returned, the shoes felt a little better, so I paid for them
