After hearing great things about Silversea, we thought we would give it a try. We chose a 12 day cruise on The Spirit to the West Indies. We were very disappointed.
These were the reasons why:
The cabin smelled. After complaining for 9 days they offered to move us. By that time we had purchased a perfume spray and only had three days left so why bother.
During the entire cruise, the ship had a vibration probably from the engine. When it went very slow the vibration stopped.
The phones didn't work for two days. They kept ringing day and night and know one was there when we answered we couldn

Silversea cancelled a cruise the day before we made a final wire transfer payment. Very large amt of money. Now we are chasing them to get our money back, and they have been horribly rude and unresponsive.
This is a real black mark on a cruise line that is supposed to be a cut above the rest.
Beware they will take your money, but will drag their feet and treat you rudely if They cancel and must return your money.

Beware of this company's dubious business practices. To be clear, I did not take a cruise with Silversea, but had signed up for one and paid a deposit of $7700. I later found out that there was a travel ban to Chile (and Argentina), the only possible ports of departure, in effect at the time I booked a cruise. No mention whatsoever of this fact was made at the time they took my money. I would have had to pay in full the remaining cost of the cruise, a very large amount, to be eligible for a full refund if/when the cruise did not take place (travel bans are still in effect with no indication

This cruise company took full payment and then asked that customers follow instructions for obtaining visas for travel. Following their instructions, I submitted my passport for a visa and never received my passport back. Silverseas uses a third party and won't take responsibility. They have not offered me any compensation .
I would not trust this company or their third parties with your documents.

We booked a trip before Covid-19 and paid deposit of over $2000. Once we realized that the situation would not allow us to travel because one of us had an underlying condition we cancelled the cruise. It has now been 58 days since I requested a refund and nothing. It is ridiculous that they can take your money within minutes, but takes two months to issue a refund. Theft!

Heard about Silversea Cruises and decided to try them. Unfortunately, didn't read Yelp but want to share a few notes from our cruise from hell.
We are veteran cruisers at all levels. These comments refer to the Silver Whisper, Nov 1 cruise from New York to San Juan :
The stateroom was lovely, clean, well appointed and the butler and attendant service great. Table service at restaurants was very good and friendly and knowledgeable. Our booking agent was superb.
From here on it goes downhill. The stateroom was always cold and temp could not controlled. Finally they had to put duct tape

I was expecting a high end cruise with excellent service and a friendly knowledgeable staff. NOT SO MUCH. Our boat was the Silver Spirit with 600 old ( average age 75) grouchy passengers that went from Rome to Monte Carlo. I was told that the service and boat was so outstanding you would not notice all the people. NOT TRUE. We were packed on tenders and in restaurants.
Make sure you bring lots of expensive jewelry, fancy clothes and be ready to sit around talking about "undesirable" people on those "other" cruises.
Just like "other" cruises you have to make reservations

We have traveled on SIlversea Cruises before in the Caribbean and while the boat is dated and limited in its entertainment, and the excursions are passable it was good enough given their strong, adventurous itineraries and good service on board. However, after having booked a West African cruise a year ago, the itinerary has gradually gone from spectacular to ok. Having paid $53000, this is rather disappointing. The itinerary has eliminated 3 countries and decided to replace it with sea days or an extra day at the last port?! Nothing changed from our booking date, but the company claims that the

I cannot really say in words well enough to describe the experience that my wife and I had on the Silver Shadow Ship belonging to Silversea Ltd. I took my wife on this Alaskan cruise after she had treatment for Cancer and to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.
We had to leave the ship early because it was so bad and my wife did not feel safe after she became ill on the ship and was mistreated by the ship doctor.
We both knew something was wrong when we got on the ship and it smelled of stale smoke but assumed that the "smokers" would only be allowed outside in certain areas.

Silversea advertises their ships as 6-star, ULTRA LUXURY.
We boarded Silver Whisper in Venice on May 30. The ship is worn, old, tired. Nothing too luxurious about it.
The crew is friendly. The cabin was spacious. The beef, duck, etc at dinner were high quality.
BUT, for the money paid (the most expensive cruise we have ever taken, out of 33 cruises), they just didn't provide the luxury they promised.
They lost us. We won't return.

7 day cruise that was a disaster. Our cabin flooded with 4 inches of water. We had to stay in the cabin because nothing else was available until the next day. They moved us to a cabin with air conditioning problems which was never fixed. We ended up getting off the ship early and flying home. I contacted the President of Silversea and was referred to someone else. My request was for a future cruise credit to match the price I had paid for a vacation/birthday celebration that was ruined. Their response was a $1,000 future cruise credit which was a slap in the face. Needless to say they lost

I believed the brochures. We were on 16 day Silver Whisper NZ / Australia cruise. We Expected beautiful surroundings with impeccable taste but the ships refurbishment did not update the worn traditional furnishings. Also old fashioned, design elements did not fit our life style. (I'm 72, spouse 78, )
The 1hour free wifi was per cabin not passenger. The expensive paid wifi access was unreliable and also only allowed single access so sitting together while tuned in was not something we could do. I didn't inquire whether I could buy another $300 package for my spouse as I was already disgruntled

We booked a cruise with Silversea and the agent/representative repeatedly said that there would be free (no penalty) cancellation if we wanted to do that. When the invoice came in we saw that there was a $200 cancellation fee even if it was cancelled right after booking. We called and the agent we spoke to would not refund the $200. We told him to pull the phone tapes where we were promised that there would be no penalty. We had hoped to book with Silversea again but with poor customer service and not so ethical tactics, we will go with another cruise line. They lost us!

Hope the cruise is good because the customer service up to this point is the worst I've ever encountered. Hotels promised, not there and wanting us to pay more for a mediocre room.
Could write on forever, but bottom line is we will never book with them again.
Love WindStar!! So accommodating.
Wow... just read other reviews with the same complaints. They charge a huge amount of money and don't seem to have the customer service at the get go that deserves it.

Terrible customer service. The cruise line booked our flights with a 30 minute international layover. Due to a slight delay, we missed our connection. The company's response was "sorry, you are out of luck." Be VERY careful booking airfare with this company. If anything goes wrong, even if its their fault, you are will lose all of your money. When you try to work it out with customer service, they never call back.

Their customer service, if you can call it that, IS HORRIBLE.
4 couples booked a cruise in Italy. Cruise included roundtrip airfare - except Silversea chose the airlines, dates and flights based on their contracts; not our schedules or requests. If you do make a special request, there are multiple "deviation fees" AND then they still can't book what you want.
