I asked them for a quote for a small project, the numbers they sent back were so high, that when I showed it to some friends they all reacted the same way....are they serious or are they just messing with you?
If you were to extrapolate what they quoted me for my small project to a full size new deck/patio, it would have to be well over $150K.

I found Kona on google and gave them a call for a consultation for a paver patio that we wanted installed. From the front office to the field workers, they all were very kind and took a messages from me when needed and got it to the correct department when necessary. They contacted me back very quickly and got any issues resolved. Had a great experience with this company and would recommend them to anyone else looking for any paver needs. I had my decks rebuilt by Kona Contractors. As they demolished the old decks, the dry rot and bad construction (i.e. not to code) by the original builders came to light. Kona repaired everything to code and then rebuilt the decks which are now safe and look very good.
Overall the construction team worked safely and to schedule. The slight over runs on time were due to the unexpected repairs that were identified as demolition proceeded.

We decided to add a patio cover to our home last fall and I'm glad we got an early start. We struggled with how to complete the project due to the difficult roof line on the back of our home. The previous contractors we met with could not provide a sufficient explanation of how they proposed to complete the project. Hired Kona to install metal railing and spiral stairs, and to add stone to the existing columns. To save some $, I did the demo myself. We absolutely LOVE our new patio and built in grill! We had a rough idea of what we wanted, but Brittany really brought it to life. With some very vague ideas she came up with a plan we love. We had a couple of special requests, including installing a hibachi cooking surface (that we provided) instead of a traditional grill. They worked around everything and even accommodated some changes we made in the middle of the project. They were respectful of the fact we have dogs and worked around that really well. Kona sent a team to demolish our deck and build a new one adding a gabled roof cover and pergola. The team worked diligently everyday, with no work stoppages to go to other jobs which frequently happens in this industry. The only delays we experienced were due to material shortages. The work crew was professional & informative producing a quality product we will be proud to own for years to come. Thank you, Kona!

Finished product (pergola) was done well and the work crew was great. Negative review is the result of a very poor process up front - in terms of measuring correctly, providing accurate bids and communication - that resulted in them increasing the price 21% after I had paid the initial deposit and had been the one that had urged verifying the measurements. Excuse given was that the upfront sales guys are not great at the estimates - first of all, not my problem and, second, isn't that concerning as this is the first contact with your customers? Met them at the home show Feb 2018. Set up a date for them to come out to review the property and give us a quote. They were very specific about making the appointment and our availability being important. Well the date was a month out. I made arrangements to be home that day from my job. The time of the appt. came and went. I called the office, they stated they had to cancel due to weather ( really it rained and snowed less than an inch the night before, but was clear and sunny for the appt.)

We just had our paver patio done by them (patio, fire pit and seating wall), and we couldn't be happier with the result. They are excellent communicators, and made sure that we were happy every step along the way. A couple of times we needed to revise some things that weren't quite the way we wanted them, and they made the adjustments quickly. Brittany, RW, Ryan and Adam are all fantastic and so easy to work with. I couldn't recommend them more, and wouldn't hesitate to hire them for another project at our house.

We felt the estimate (although not the cheapest) seemed fair given his thorough review and explanation of why things cost what they do.
