We are very pleased to announce that in recognition of the value of our marine biology camp, the College of the Atlantic (COA) is offering scholarships of $40,000 over four years to our alumni.

The Fundy Marine Science Institute is dedicated to providing marine biology experiential educational programs and facilities for learning about the dynamic marine ecology of the Bay of Fundy as well as the coastal, terrestrial and human ecologies of Grand Manan Island.

At the Whale Camp you'll make connections. Connections with elusive marine creatures and with a charming island, but just as importantly you'll make connections with amazing people too. Year after year campers continue to affirm that Whale Camp is a place to be yourself, discover who you are and to meet genuine and lasting friends.
Capture their majesty. Watch in anticipation as a North Atlantic right whale surfaces, raises its enormous body to look you in the eye and then dives back into the deep. Hear the piercing blow of a finback whale surface feeding next to the boat. Feel the exhilaration as a humpback whale hurls its massive body out of the water and crashes back into the sea.
Whale Camp adventures at sea go far beyond whales and sailing. As a whale camper, you have the rare opportunity to visit remote Machias Seal Island. Here the sky is filled with the chattering antics of thousands of amazing sea birds. From feet away you will come eye-to-eye with hundreds of Atlantic puffins accompanied by Arctic terns, common murres, and razorbill auks.
You begin by venturing into pools exposed as the tide rolls out. Then find yourself along a stream deep in the island forest sampling the many edible plants including raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. Venture deeper and you will discover eerie bog systems with predatory plants, flammable gasses, and uniquely adapted trees half-buried in sphagnum moss.

My teen has attended WC for 2 weeks for the last 6 summers (5 in person and 1 virtual), and has had the most amazing experiences with them! She has a ton of fun, learns so much and comes back energized for school. The energy propels her right through Christmas break. The island experiences, education, friends she had made and mentoring from Amy, Calin, Dana, Yoko and the rest of the staff will last a life time. This camp is worth the $ and then some! 😉

Whale Camp has been an amazing experience for my family. I learned of it a few years ago. I read through the stellar reviews on the camp's Facebook page, and that put me at ease. Campers learn a lot about science, ecology, conservation, and whales, of course. They play summer camp games, make new friends, and fall in love with the island. They can accommodate special dietary needs.
Regarding the review that says the camp doesn't exist, the camp's winter mailing address is in Pennsylvania, which is what Google is currently showing as the location. The camp itself is located on Canada's Grand Manan

My 11 year old daughter went to Whale Camp in August 2018. She had one of her best friends who is the same age join her. She had a really great time and the staff was super helpful and very professional. They were very busy every day all day doing interesting activities along with a good mix of fun camp games. I was a little bit nervous about sending her for camp and handing her over along with her passport to the camp counselors whom I did not know. I called them once per day for the first three days at camp and they were very reassuring that my daughter was safe and having a great time. My daughter
